Prince William, 39, has opened up about how fatherhood impacted his work in the air ambulance service in a new YouTube video

Prince William (39), has shared his thoughts on how being a father impacted his role in the air ambulance services in a YouTube video.

The video began with the Duke arriving at the home of Will, a paramedic, and Chloe, an emergency care assistant.

He interviewed the couple to learn more about their mental health, while they worked in the emergency service.

According to the Duke, “People want their loved ones and families protected from horrible and terrible things.”

“But, you live two different lives. You’re preventing your family members from seeing a vital part of you and the person you want to be.

From 2015 to 2017, the Duke of Cambridge was a medical officer with East Anglian Air Ambulance.

“There is nothing in training that promotes this so each person must adapt.

“But, you may not have all the tools you need to handle these issues. The training and education necessary to succeed are essential.

Prince William admitted that he was affected by his time in the Air Ambulance.

“Much more than what I would think if my children hadn’t been born. The relationship I had with my family was what was most important to me.

‘I found that  very difficult.’

The father-of-three said he felt particularly 'affected' by jobs which 'related with his personal life' (pictured, with Kate Middleton, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis)

According to the father of three, he feels particularly “affected” by jobs that are’related to his personal life (pictured with Kate Middleton and Prince George as well as Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Prince George, Prince George and Prince Louis).

He continued: ‘There were a number of times when I had to take myself away because I was  just getting  too involved in it and feeling it.

It continues. The event doesn’t end there. You learn how to handle it more effectively.

Prince William was a pilot with the East Anglian Air Ambulance between 2015-2017 for 18 months, before being relegated to more royal roles for the Queen.

When his children began school at Thomas’s Battersea and started to attend Thomas’s Battersea School, he left this role to be able to spend more time in London. He also took on additional royal duties to help the Queen.

The video began with the Duke arriving at the home of Will, a paramedic, and Chloe, an emergency care assistant and discussing the mental health of emergency responders

The Duke arrived at Will’s house as a paramedic. Chloe was an emergency care assistant.

The Duke has previously spoken of how the job left him with ‘a very depressing, very negative feeling, where you think death is just around the door everywhere I go’.

The future king’s remarkably frank admissions come in a BBC documentary, A Royal Team Talk: Tackling Mental Health, which saw him discuss the issue with footballers including Peter Crouch and England manager Gareth Southgate.

Speaking about the ‘raw, emotional’ realities of working with the air ambulance, he said: ‘You’re dealing with families who are having the worst news they could ever possibly have – on a day-to-day basis.

He spoke candidly of the ‘particular, personal’ resonance he felt with some families, and added: ‘That raw emotion, I just thought listen, I can’t – I could feel it brewing up inside me and I could feel it was going to take its toll and be a real problem.’
