As part of the trio of exhibitions to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee, the pastel pink gown worn by Queen Elizabeth II to Silver Jubilee Celebrations next year will be on display.  

The Royal Collection is staging the displays commemorating the Queen’s accession, coronation and jubilees at Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace and the Palace of Holyroodhouse in 2022. 

Today, details of the exhibit were made public after Queen Elizabeth II was unable to attend the Remembrance Day service at Cenotaph because she had a sprained her back.

A trio of exhibits celebrating her Platinum Jubilee will include the display of the pastel pink dress that Queen Elizabeth wore to Silver Jubilee festivities.

Among the pieces to go on show in the Display Of Jubilee Outfits exhibition at Holyroodhouse is the pink silk crepe and chiffon dress, coat and stole worn by the Queen to mark 25 years of her reign in June 1977. 

The ensemble was made by Sir Hardy Amies (royal couturier) and Simone Mirman (milliner). 

The Platinum Jubilee: Windsor Castle’s Queen’s Coronation Exhibition will display the Coronation Dresses of Estate and Robe of Estate used by Queen Elizabeth II for her 1953 coronation.

The third exhibition, Platinum Jubilee: The Queen’s Accession will feature historic photographic portraits of the head of state taken just 20 days after she acceded to the throne.   

Dorothy Wilding took the famous pictures that formed the base of the young monarch’s image on many millions of stamps in the years 1953-71. It also served as the official portrait for every British Embassy around the world.

The Queen’s Coronation Dress is regarded as one of the most important examples of twentieth-century design. It was created by British couturier Sir Normal Hartnell

Caroline de Guitaut was curator for the exhibits. She said that ‘Wilding’s ability to lighten and create simple backgrounds in black and white, combined with beautiful evening gowns and sparkling jewels, made these portraits some of her most memorable.

“Their historic importance resonates even more given that their portrayion of the longest-reigning monarch British history.

You can also see pieces from Queen Elizabeth’s private jewellery collection, which she wore during Wilding’s sittings.

The Queen’s Girls of Great Britain & Ireland Tiara will be on display. This heirloomed gift was given by Queen Mary to Princess Elizabeth when she married the Duke of Edinburgh.

Granny’s Tiara is also called this piece. She often wears it to state banquets as a glittering headpiece made from diamonds with a scroll and festoon design.

A third exhibit, Platinum Jubilee – The Queen’s Accession, will showcase historic photos of the head state, taken only 20 days after her accession.

After the Queen had missed Remembrance Day service 22 years ago due to an injury, plans were made for the exhibitions.

After spending the night at hospital on October 20, where he had preliminary tests, doctors ordered that the monarch of 95 years rest.

On February 6, 2022, she will be 70 years old. The celebrations in June include a weekend-long bank holiday weekend and national festivities.

The Royal Collection will host two additional exhibitions next year that showcase its finest work.

Japan: Courts and Culture, Buckingham Palace will be telling the story about 300 years of cultural, diplomatic and artistic exchanges between British and Japanese imperial and royal families, from April 8, 2022, to March 12, 2023.

From March 2022 to September 2022, the Masterpieces From Buckingham Palace exhibit will be held at Holyroodhouse. It features more than 30 Old Master paintings from the Royal Collection.

Platinum Jubilee, The Queen’s Accession takes place at Buckingham Palace July 22-October 2 2022. Platinum Jubilee is the Queen’s Coronation at Windsor Castle July 7-September 26 2022.

From July through September 2022 the Palace of Holyroodhouse presents Platinum Jubilee.
