After a probe into the 2004 sex attack claim, a German suspect of kidnapping Madeleine McCann faces a ‘rape charge’

German officials announced that Madeleine McCann is being charged next year with 2004 rape.

Christian Brueckner 45 is being accused of attacking Hazel Behan (Irish tour representative) on the Algarve. He was only 20 when the attack occurred three years prior to the British toddler’s disappearance.

German news website Der Spiegel reported that prosecutors will ‘conclude the investigation’ early next year.

Brueckner, who raped an American pensioner in 2005, is serving a seven-year sentence.

German prosecutors have not yet revealed what evidence they have that implicates Brueckner in Miss Behan’s case. 

His lawyer refused to comment.

His burgling of holiday apartments and hotel rooms is also a common occurrence.

Portuguese police files on Ms Behan’s case seen by the German news weekly say there are numerous parallels between her ordeal and the attack on the 72-year-old woman.

She came forward in June 2020, waiving her anonymity, and demanded her case be reopened after reading about Brueckner’s conviction in the media.

Ms. Behan shared details of the attack at the time. In particular, she told how a masking man climbed onto her apartment’s balcony in the wee hours of the morning.

The man tied her neck and then raped her for four to five hours.

The attacker threatened her with death, then fled the scene and left her bleeding on the balcony.
