Scientists warned Tuesday that Omicron variant cases in Britain are likely to rise faster than those in certain African countries on the red travel list.
Early data from Professor Tim Spector suggests that coronavirus cases are increasing by two per day, which would make it more common than the eleven countries where travelers to the UK have to be quarantined to stop transmission to their communities.
Early data suggests Omicron is more transmissible – although milder – than the Delta variant, which is currently dominant in the UK.
Within the next two week, the Prime Minister will provide an update as to whether additional restrictions need to be implemented.
