Billionaire media baron Rupert Murdoch is divorcing Jerry Hall after six years of marriage, it was reported today.
Murdoch, 91, will have his fourth divorce and the shortest marriage. Hall, 65 years old, was not married prior to tying the knot in March 2016 with media mogul, 23 years her junior.
She had a relationship for 22 years with Mick Jagger (Rolling Stones guitarist), and they have four children together – Elizabeth, 38; James, 36; Georgia May, 30; Gabriel, 24, and Gabriel, 24.
Murdoch is $17.7billion in worth and has six children: Prudence, now 64 with Patricia Booker; Elisabeth now 53 with Anna Mann; and Lachlan and James, both now 49 with Anna Mann. He also shares Grace (now 21) and Chloe (19), with Wendi Deng.
Details of Murdoch and Hall’s divorce have not yet been shared, with the New York Times simply reporting that it had spoken with ‘two people with knowledge of the decision’, however the couple do not share any children together.
DailyMail.com reached out to Murdoch and Hall representatives for comments.
After six years marriage, Rupert Murdoch, the Australian media giant is reported to have divorced Jerry Hall.
In a simple ceremony held in London, the 91-year old married Hall, 65 in March 2016. The couple are pictured soon after the ceremony.
The Mail on Sunday published in October 2015 the news that Murdoch was dating Hall, days before Murdoch and Hall made public their first appearance as a married couple at Twickenham Rugby (pictured).
Murdoch and Hall last saw each other in London on August 20, 2021 when they were photographed arriving at separate dinners (seen). It is believed that they left in a shared vehicle.
After an intense five-month relationship, they tied the knot in London on March 16, 2016. It was a low-key, private ceremony held at Spencer House overlooking Green Park.
Media mogul and media tycoon, who expressed joy at the union shortly before the ceremony, tweeted that he planned to take a vacation from social media to live his newlywed life.
“No more tweets over the past ten days, or for ever!” Then he said. “Feel like you are the luckiest, and most happy man on earth.”
After their ceremony was over, the couple held a lavish party that all their ten children attended.
Hall’s and Murdochs’ two youngest daughters were bridesmaids. Lachlan, Murdoch’s son was said to have officiated at the couple’s initial ceremony.
Hall posted a picture of the newlyweds with their children after the wedding and wrote: “My beautiful family!”
Murdoch and Hall got married, and the billionaire wrote that he feels like the luckiest man and most happy in the whole world.
Hall was married to Murdoch, her first step down the aisle. Jagger had an unofficial ceremony in Bali with Hall in 1990. But that ceremony was invalidated by the UK’s high court after their split.
Before he married Hall, Murdoch exchanged three wedding vows.
In 1956, he married Patricia, a former flight attendant, but the couple split nine years later with Prudence, their sole child.
He also married Anna, his second wife. Anna was a journalist from Glasgow who he had been married to for 32 years before they divorced in 1999.
According to CNBC, Anna received $1.7 billion in cash and $10 million as part of the divorce settlement.
Just 17 days after his divorce from Anna, Murdoch married Wendi. Murdoch was then 68 and Wendi, just 30, at the time.
The marriage lasted for 14 years before the couple announced their separation. A spokesperson from News Corp revealed in June 2013 that they had been separated for more than six month.
Murdoch began to date Hall quietly in 2015; The Mail on Sunday reported in October that Hall and Murdoch were introduced by Murdoch’s niece and sister in Australia.
All ten of Murdoch’s children attended the wedding. This included Murdoch’s two sons Lachlan (left), and James (right).
The ceremony was performed by Murdoch’s younger daughters, Grace and Chloe. Hall’s girls Georgia May and Elizabeth were the bridesmaids.
On October 31, the couple announced their engagement when they were photographed together at Twickenham, London’s Rugby World Cup final.
In January 2016, they attended the Golden Globes at Los Angeles. This was just days before Murdoch declared that Murdoch and the couple were engaged.
Murdoch proposed with a marquise 10-carat diamond engagement ring. It was estimated to have a value of up to $3.5 Million.
Hall and Murdoch purchased the Beaverhead cattle ranch, worth $200 million, in Montana seven months after their divorce news was published.
This ranch was purchased on 340,000 acres near Yellowstone National Park. It was also the largest ranch purchase in Montana history.
Murdoch stated to the Wall Street Journal at the time that he had a deep responsibility for his new residence.
“We feel honored to be the owners of this magnificent land. We look forward in continuing to improve both the ranch’s commercial cattle operation and its conservation resources.
According to a spokesperson, Hall and Murdoch will spend their time on the ranch together after having searched for one year for the ideal spot in the region.
In addition to the newly-purchased ranch, Murdoch also owns a $28.8 million estate and winery in the Bel-Air neighborhood of Los Angeles, a ranch in California, a four-story penthouse in New York City that is believed to be worth around $72 million, and a 25,000-acre sheep and cattle farm, called Cavan Station, in his native Australia.
Forbes last year reported that Murdoch owned at least two properties in Britain: an Oxfordshire 11-bedroom home and a London apartment.
While details about the divorce agreement and paperwork are not yet public, it’s likely that the split will rank among the most costly in the world. This title is less than the honorable one that Murdoch earned from his divorce from Anna, worth $1.7 billion.
Hall was never divorced before, but she did have to fight Jagger in court when she split with Jagger over their 1999 Bali marriage ceremony.
The news of their divorce is just seven months following the announcement that the couple had bought a Montana ranch worth $200 million and 340,000 acres.
Murdoch described Beaverhead Ranch’s purchase as a profound responsibility. A spokesperson for Murdoch stated that Hall and he planned to spend their time together at the property.
It is situated on Montana’s 50-mile property, near Yellowstone National Park.
Former supermodel and Texas native, the former model, stated that she believed that marriage was valid. The couple would then need to undergo official divorce proceedings. The ceremony was declared invalid by a UK high court judge.
In 2005, Hall opened up about her feelings over Jagger’s alleged womanizing during their relationship, telling the Evening Standard that she ‘forgave, and forgave, and forgave and forgave to the point where it wasn’t very healthy at all’, adding: ‘Sure, he wasn’t a great husband, and I could gripe and grouse, but I think that’s old hat.’
In addition, she confessed that Jagger was still her love, although their relationship had been so unhealthy, that it had left Jagger’so sad’ and unhappiness.
Hall was married to Mick Jagger, Rolling Stones’ rocker from 1977-1999 for 22 years. Although they were not married, the couple has four children.
‘I still love him. However, it was making me very unhappy. “I felt so sad that I couldn’t do anything. It’s detrimental to your self-esteem if you are in an unhealthy relationship. It’s hard to remain consistent with all the ups and downs in life
According to sources, Jagger was unhappy about Hall’s 2016 wedding to Murdoch. One friend claimed Jagger had a real problem with the Australian media mogul becoming his son.
Insider said that Rupert Murdoch would now become part of Mick’s extended familial circle.
News of Murdoch’s latest divorce occurs just more than four years after Murdoch suffered an incredibly serious fall from the yacht of his son Lachlan.
The New York Times reports that the incident in January 2018 occurred at night when the billionaire fell as he was making his way towards the toilet.
After he was treated for broken vertebrae in the Caribbean, he was flown to Los Angeles by air ambulance.
Urgent surgery was necessary for the vertebrae. The hematoma would have left Murdoch paralysed or even dead.
According to the New York Times, Hall suffered from panic attacks in April 2019. She was so worried about the situation of her husband that she decided to phone his adult children and ask them to immediately come to Los Angeles so they could find peace.
Murdoch, however, sent an email to News Corp’s entire organization within days, insisting that his recovery was on track.
Vanity Fair obtained a copy and reported it as follows: “I hope that you are all having a wonderful start to 2018!” I think it was better than mine.
‘I am writing you because last week, I suffered from a back injury and a sailing accident. Even though I’m well on the way to my recovery, I still have to work at home for several weeks. In the meantime, you’ll be hearing from me by email, phone and text!’
Murdoch married three more times before marrying Hall. In June 1999, he married Wendi Deng his third time. They had two daughters together, Grace and Chloe.
In 1967, Murdoch married Anna Torv (journalist), shortly after his divorce from Patricia Booker. Murdoch was blessed with three children by Anna Torv: Elisabeth (pictured below and right) and Lachlan, and James (pictured below).
Jagger was pictured with Hall 1983. He is said to have felt’seething’ over the marriage of his supermodel ex to Murdoch
The Times stated that Murdoch had suffered two previous falls before the incident at Lachlan’s yacht.
Murdoch was said to have once fallen while exiting from the stage. Another time, he is believed to have stumbled on the San Francisco hotel carpet. In both instances the family prevented the news from getting out to the press.
Ronald Reagan U.C.L.A. was visited by his four children. After the 2018 Fall, his four oldest children flew in from London and New York to be by their dad’s side at the Medical Center.
It was successful and Murdoch was seen with his four children in bed. He joked about how he didn’t know how grave his situation was until he saw them all in the hospital room.
The accident, despite its frivolity, will undoubtedly have shocked the Murdoch families. This was not just because of the possible emotional heartache that comes with losing a loved-one, but also because there will be many questions as to who his children will take his place at News Corp.
Murdoch has recruited many of his children over the years to work for his multi-billion dollar media company. His allegedly cut-throat family dynamics were said to have been the inspiration for HBO’s smash series Succession.
The dramatized retellings by Roger Ailes about his sexual harassment accusations against Fox News’ former CEO, Lachlan Ailes and James were once more thrust him into pop culture’s spotlight. They were first revealed in 2016 and then brought out again in 2019 in Hulu’s The Loudest Voice as well as in the blockbuster film Bombshell.
Murdoch had once included all his four adult children (Prudence, Elisabeth and Lachlan) as employees in News Corp. However, only his oldest son Lachlan is still there.
James quit the media empire of his father in July 2020. He told the New York Times that Fox and News Corp were “legitimizing disinformation” during the COVID-19 pandemic.
News Corp. is one of the major media conglomerates controlled by The Murdoch Family. The other was Fox Corporation. Fox Corporation was created after The Walt Disney Company purchased the majority 21st Century Fox.
Murdoch stated to the Times that it wasn’t difficult for him to resign from News Corp due major differences with his brother Lachlan and father Lachlan regarding the management of the company.
He said, “I came to the conclusion that it was possible to venerate a contest for ideas, if that is what you want, which we all do, and that that’s very important.” It shouldn’t hide agendas. It is not acceptable to use a contest of ideas as a means of legitimizing disinformation.
“I think that it’s frequently taken advantage of. It is my opinion that great news organisations should aim to present fact to disperse uncertainty – and not sow doubt or obscure reality.
Murdoch claimed that he felt ‘increasingly uneasy’ in the corporate inner workings and so, ‘pulled out the ripcord’.
