Stephen Port, the serial killer, confessed to a friend that he wanted Hollywood stars Eddie Redmayne and Kevin Bacon playing him in a film.
Stephen Merchant will portray the Grindr Killer, the sexual predator who drugged, raped and killed four gay men that he had met through the gay dating app. He is also the co-creator and best known for his comic roles.
Port (46) is now serving life in Belmarsh high security prison.
A jury at Old Bailey heard in 2016 that the victim’s ex-chef had invited them to his home and given them fatal doses. Then, he raped them while they were unconscious.

Serial killer Stephen Port, (pictured) whose murder spree is the subject of a BBC drama starting tomorrow, told a friend from jail that he wanted Hollywood stars Kevin Bacon or Eddie Redmayne to play him in a film

Port wrote letters to a pen pal expressing his desire for Eddie Redmayne or any other Hollywood star to portray him in a movie. He claimed that he was similar to him
Port had corresponded in Manchester with his pen pal, who sent more than 100 pages worth of scribbled letters to The Mail Sunday before his trial. Port’s letters show his hope for Hollywood to cast him as a star in a movie. He sings praises of Redmayne, Bacon and Captain America stars Chris Evans.
While he continues to deny the responsibility for the murders, he is honest about his past as an escort gay. According to him, his ideal job would be with the Prince’s Trust in drug awareness programs.
He wrote, “Not sure who could portray me in a movie,” He writes, “I was told that I looked like Kevin Bacon in a younger age, so Eddie Redmayne and possibly the actor who played Captain America.”

Stephen Merchant plays Port in BBC’s Three-Part Drama Four Lives.
Merchant will play Port in the BBC’s Three-Part Drama Four Lives. His 15-month-long killing spree started in June 2014. Last week, Merchant described the police’s handling of the Port case as shocking. They missed potential leads that could have saved three deaths. “When I read the script for the first time, I thought that some of the errors made by the police in investigating the Port murders must be exaggerated to make the story more dramatic,” he stated.
Port was sentenced to eight months in prison for perverting justice after the death Mr Walgate. The death of Mr Walgate was treated as drug overdoses by the police until the fourth body emerged. Met failed to deliver on its promises, according to an inquest.
- Tomorrow at 9 p.m., Four Lives will be on BBC1.
