Terrifying moment gun shots rang out on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame after ‘sniper took aim from his apartment window at crowds gathered for a memorial at Mexican singer Vicente Fernández’s star’ – before cops stormed building and arrested suspect

  • Los Angeles police confirm that a male suspect was taken into custody. The shots were fired from an apartment on Hollywood Boulevard’s 6200 block. 
  • The shots were fired a little after 7 pm on Sunday as a memorial for the late Mexican singer Vicente Fernández was taking place 
  • The scene was captured in photos. A glass door had been broken by the bullet. 
  • The shooter was not responsible for any injuries or deaths. 










A ‘sniper’ took aim at crowds on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame on Sunday night with a handgun during a vigil at the late Mexican singer Vicente Fernández’s star.

Twelve officers stormed the residence where the suspect was reportedly seen shooting from his window in an apartment. 

Witnesses reported seeing someone with a gun at the window just moments after the shooter opened fire.

The suspect male, not named yet, was detained. They are still unknown as to their motive.

LAPD Sergeant. Andrew Dineen from the Hollywood Division stated to the Los Angeles Daily News, that the suspect would likely be charged with assault using a deadly weapon and firing into an inhabited structure.

There weren’t any fatalities. 

Cellphone footage captured the moment that the peaceful vigil, which saw people singing along to Fernández’ music, was interrupted by gunfire at around 7pm Sunday.

Police arrested a male suspect after firing shots from his apartment window across from Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles on Sunday

After firing shots out of his apartment window, a suspect was arrested by police in Los Angeles. He had been shooting from the Walk of Fame at Hollywood Boulevard on Sunday.

A few people in the crowd were briefly shocked before fleeing as four shots came out at once.  

Several news crews were at the Walk of Fame to cover Fernández’s fans gathering in his honor, including ABC7’s Leanne Suter who tweeted shortly after gunfire erupted: 

“We heard four to five shots. A bullet broke through a window across the street.

A minimum of one bullet struck the apartment door in the building next to the shooter. 

Police evacuated the area and surrounded the apartment building in the 6200 block of Hollywood Boulevard while police helicopters flew overhead.

Cops set up a perimeter around the area, with several armed units placed on roofs on surrounding buildings, until they could storm in and arrest the suspect, CBS Los Angeles reported. 

Fans and news crews gathered on Hollywood Boulevard at the star of Fernández, the beloved Mexican singer and winner of three Grammys and nine Latin Grammys, who died today at the age of 81. 

Fernández, known also by his nickname ‘Chente,’ died at 6:15 a.m. in a hospital in Jalisco state, his family said. The funeral arrangements were not yet announced. 

Fernández sold more than 50 million records and appeared in more than 30 films. He said good-bye to Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, where he performed for 85,000 fans in April 2016.
