Unidentified 19-year-old denies the murder of his younger sister in a holiday park.
Matthew Selby, 15-year-old brother of Amanda Selby, pleaded not guilty today to her murder. He appeared via videolink at HMP Berwyn’s Mold Crown Court.
After police received reports about a disturbance at Ty Mawr Holiday Park near Abergele in North Wales on Saturday July 31, she died.
Selby (of Ashton-under-Lyne Greater Manchester) spoke only during the 10 minute hearing to confirm his name, and enter his plea.
The case of Judge Rhys Rowlands was adjourned in anticipation of the February 28th hearing, which should last for seven days.
Amanda’s loved ones released a statement by North Wales Police after her death. The statement stated: “Amanda was a loving granddaughter and daughter – she was caregiving, thoughtful, like to help others and deeply loved.” It will be a great loss.
Matthew Selby was a neighbor who claims he has learning disabilities. He appeared before Mold Crown Court on Saturday to be charged with Amanda’s murder. This happened in a camp that hundreds were visiting on the busiest weekend of the year.
Selby (court artist sketch, left at Llandudno Magistrates), was seen by HMP Berwyn via videolink for an August hearing. His only words were to confirm his identity.
Droylsden Academy, Greater Manchester’s school of education, paid tribute.
It posted a message to its website saying: “Our school family is shocked by the terrible news. Amanda was a wonderful student. Students and staff will miss her greatly.
At an earlier hearing, James Neary the prosecution stated that no bail was available. Simon Sargent Selby, Selby’s defence lawyer said: “I have nothing to add except to state this is a tragic situation.”
When Amanda died an air ambulance rushed to the scene, as parts of the Parkdean resort and a caravan were cordoned off while police carried out an investigation in the 100-acre park.
A helicopter ambulance was dispatched on Saturday to Ty Mawr, Towyn in north Wales.
A police officer was called in to investigate a “serious” incident that occurred at a Welsh holiday resort. They advised the public to “stay away” after this “tragic event.”
North Wales Police urged at the time: ‘We would ask the public not to speculate about this incident on social media as this is an active investigation.’
Eyewitnesses stated that an air ambulance touched down on A548, closing both lanes. At 3.30, three emergency vehicles and two ambulances were in tow.
According to a police spokesperson, Matthew Selby, 19, from Greater Manchester, was charged with murder following an incident that occurred at Ty Mawr Holiday Park in Towyn on Saturday afternoon.
Carly Hargreaves was 44 years old and a mother of two. She arrived in Manchester to take a holiday.
From outside, she said: “We are two rows back from where it occurred and we didn’t hear one thing.”
