For the Platinum Jubilee, a commemorative coin featuring the Queen riding on horseback was unveiled.
Marking seven decades on the throne, the equestrian image will be struck on the ‘heads’ side of the Royal Mint’s new 50p and a traditional £5 crown.
On the coin’s opposite side, you will see the number 70.
John Bergdahl designed the coin.

This is not the first time that a coin has depicted the Queen on horseback.
It is an homage to the 1952 coronation and 2002 Jubilee Crown Pieces, where the Queen was riding a horse.
Royal Mint stated that Her Majesty approved the design for this year.
Clare Maclennan of the Royal Mint stated that: “Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee coin is an indestructible piece art which will be collected, treasured and passed on for generations.”

Elizabeth II became Queen of the Commonwealth when her father George VI passed away on February 6, 1952 while Elizabeth was still in Kenya.
An extended bank holiday will mark the centerpiece of Platinum Jubilee celebrations. It will run from Thursday June 2 to Sunday June 5. There will also be community events and activities.
Chris Barker, Royal Mint Museum historian said that the Queen’s history on coins spans her entire reign. The Royal Mint has created five portraits of Her Majesty’s on official UK coins and celebrated previous Jubilees.
The 1977 Silver Jubilee crown, which was produced by The Royal Mint at Llantrisant in response to the cessation of London’s minting operations in 1975, is the UK’s first significant commemorative coin. There were approximately thirty-seven million of these coins produced. Many were given to kids across the UK in commemoration. The Royal Mint is proud to be a part of the celebrations nationwide. Today’s launch represents another milestone.
