The special prompted a slew of complaints of a homophobic slur as Michael Crawford’s character Frank Spencer is called a ‘p**f’ after dressing up as a pixie.

Desmond’s

A discussion on hereditary traits is included in one episode, titled “Hello Aunty Susu”.

Britbox stated that the episode was flagged by Channel 4 as it ‘contains racist stereotyping which some viewers might find offensive’.

Casualty 

Warnings have been added to dozens of episodes from the past due to racist content that featured black characters.  

Many episodes include a warning: ‘Contains disturbing scenes or medical procedures.

Particularly, one warns that the film contains emotional scenes as well as racist language and attitudes that may offend certain viewers.

The Good Life

The fourth episode of this lighthearted comedy, which featured Felicity Kendal, Richard Briers and Penelope Keith, featured a scene where Margo’s character wore an apron with Robertson’s jam-banned Golly badge.

BritBox added an explicit disclaimer to warn viewers that the show ‘contains disturbing racial imagery.

Coronation Street 

An episode from 1968 that featured Hilda (and Stan Ogden) visiting a Chinese eatery was subject to warning.

After trying to communicate in French with the waiter, Stan called one Chinese man ‘the Son of an Orient’ and he went on to call his food a ‘foreign tack’.

Maintaining a Professional Appearance

Clive Swift played her husband Richard, and Patricia Routledge played Hyacinth in the family sitcom. There were many jokes on this show that are now being rebuffed by modern channel executives. 

Many of the characters on the show make fun of a Polish man in one episode. They then question his legal right to reside in the UK.

As a result, Britbox has now added a disclaimer warning viewers that the series ‘contains ­language and ­attitudes of the era that may offend’

Midsomer Murders

ITV’s detective drama “Deadly Detective” was first broadcast in 1997. It came under fire for scenes featuring Morris dancers wearing blacked out faces.
