SUPERWOMAN IN THE MID-LIFE
I hit the menopause at 45 — and it triggered weight gain, which made me feel older. I took up weight training with personal trainer Lee Brooks (leebrooksofficial.com), which I still do for one hour, three times a week. This has allowed me to drop from size 12 down to 8. My own weight is 46 kg. I was afraid that it would prove impossible to lose this much after being 50. This feels very empowering.
MAGNESIUM BATHS
Getting to sleep also became a big problem for me when the menopause started, as I’d be lying there worrying. When I woke up, it was at 4am. It was exhausting. So, I upped my daily steps to 10,000 and started taking baths with Better You Sleep Magnesium Sleep Bath Flakes (£9.95, betteryou.com). Now, I get seven or eight hours’ sleep a night.

AXING ALCOHOL
I gave up drinking three years back. A medical procedure recommended that I stop drinking. It was a great feeling not to have the one-too-many feelings. It was hard for me to take care of my own health as my mother and sister both died from breast cancer. Occasionally I have a Seedlip non-alcoholic gin (£26, seedlipgin.com).
FRIZZ-FREE HAIR
Twice a year, I have a keratin treatment, which takes the frizz out of my hair (from £225, richardward.com). My hair is smoother and more manageable. I also use sulphate-free shampoo as it doesn’t strip away the hair’s natural oils. My favourite is Oribe’s Gold Repair and Restore Shampoo (from £50, spacenk.com).
Tiny Tweaks
As I’m approaching 60, I think I’m entitled to a bit of help. I have Profhilo every three months at the Waterhouse Young Clinic (from £490, waterhouseyoung.com). This is a procedure that injects hyaluronic Acid into your face. The results are super hydrating. I also have Botox (£350, waterhouseyoung.com) to smooth any fine lines.
