This year, there were three times more migrants crossing the Channel via boat than in 2020.
The perilous trip was made by a record 28381 people in 2021, surpassing the 8410 that made it last year.
In the 12 most recent months, they arrived on at least 1,020 boats. That means that an average of 78 migrants arrives in three boats each day.
The busiest month was November, when 6,869 people arrived on 201 boats.
It is the highest monthly average since the Channel started to deal with small boats.
Also, it saw the record day when 1185 migrants reached 33 boats in November 11. The second record day was when 1,131 migrants made the journey in 28 boats five day later.
The Channel also suffered the worst tragedy since November 24, when migrants began to navigate one of the busiest shipping routes in the world by small boats.
A total of 27 people, including women and children, died when their rapidly falling dinghy with an engine that was broken sank in freezing water.
Two people have been known to survive the greatest loss of life in the crisis.
Although we highlighted the dangers associated with crossing Dover Strait 21 miles in an unsuitable vessel, many migrants still arrived in large numbers in December.
1770 people have made this treacherous journey in 57 vessels in November – up from 211 in December.
On December 16, 559 passengers made their perilous voyage in 19 vessels, double the number.

More people arrived on the December 17th, 19th and 22nd than any other day in 2020.
The year began relatively calmly for Channel crossings. However, the figures reached 1000 for the first-time in May when 1,619 boats arrived with 80 passengers.
The summer brought more record-breaking temperatures.
In total, 2,179 people arrived on 92 boats in June. 3,509 made it in 117 boats in the summer. 3,012 traveled in 110 boats during August. 4,646 made it in the treacherous journey in the same boat in September.
As calm sea conditions continued, October saw 2 669 migrants arriving in 92 boats.
