This is the moment a brave husky defended its owner’s home after a cougar trespassed on the property in Canada.
This footage was taken on December 21 and shows Miika the husky lunging at the female cougar in front of the Saanich home, Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
Saanich Police shared this video via Twitter in an effort to warn residents of the danger posed b wild cats.

According to wildlife experts, the cougar is large enough to take out the husky.
His father ran out of his house screaming at the cougar, forcing him to flee the premises. His father, Mr Lucoe claimed, sounded like Scooby Do
Jarrod Lucoe, Miika’s dog owner, called her and asked for her return to him in the event that she were attacked by the cat.
The well-trained Husky immediately stops running and goes back to its home.
Mr Lucoe told Global News that he had come home for lunch when the incident happened: ‘At this time, my sister looks outside and notices Miika hiding behind one of the cars. We’ve had some dogs come from trails around here, come on to the property and sniff around. She’s pretty good at guarding the house and standing up for herself.’
Lucoe claimed that his dog was in danger as she approached a cougar. He described it as’surreal’.
According to him, it was the first sighting of a cougar anywhere in this area. The vicious predator was approximately three times larger than the husky. It represented a significant threat to the pet’s family.
He continued, “She had to be lying down. She was very shaken about it.”
To scare the cougar from their home, Mr Lucoe’s father charged as well.

Belinda Lucoe, Mr Lucoe’s mother said that all her family members were present in the home when their dog started acting oddly.
Mr Lucoe told ChekNews: ‘I was honestly extremely scared for her and my dad’s fight or flight action just took effect. I’ve never heard him scream like that in my life, he kind of sounds like Scooby-Doo.’
Mrs Lucoe added: ‘I think she reacted then all of a sudden as she got closer we were all screaming and she probably sensed our fear and then probably had some fear as well is what I’m thinking.’
Peter Pauwels, a local conservation officer said that the Lucoes had done all they could to repel the cougars from their land.
He stated that encounters between humans and cougars are becoming more common, even though it is rarely captured on film.
Saanich Police said: “We share our environment with large mammals such as bears or cougars. Residents must consider that these encounters are quite possible.”
