Watchdog issues urgent recall for £29.95 box of ten ‘Flickering Bulb’ Christmas lights from Amazon and Glow.co.uk amid fears they pose a ‘serious risk’ of electric shock

A watchdog has issued an urgent recall for £29.95 boxes of ten ‘Flickering Bulb’ Christmas lights because they pose a ‘serious risk’ of electric shock.

The Office for Produce Safety and Standards (OPSS) has urged Britons to cease using lights ‘immediately’ as they do not meet safety standards.

Faults in wiring can cause electrocution. These lights are sold online by Glow.co.uk or Amazon.

The OPSS reported that the product could cause electric shock if the screw wall inside the bulb housing was live instead of being neutral.

According to the Office for Produce Safety and Standards, Britons were urged not to use the lights ‘immediately. They don’t comply with safety standards.

“As such, electrocution could be caused by a consumer unscrewing or screwing the bulb. Product does not conform to the General Product Safety Regulations, 2005.

“If you suspect you may have an allergic reaction to a product, stop using it and get advice from the retailer.

Electrical Safety First today issued a nationwide warning that stated that: “We strongly recommend that anyone discovering that an item has been recalled for safety reasons should cease using it until the manufacturer has checked it.” 

The lights are advertised online as creating a “warming glow” with an “incredibly realistic flickering fire effect”.

These lights are designed to appear like flickering fireflies and run along a length of 5.5 feet of wire. According to the advertisement, each light emits a beautiful glow and flickers just like a real flame.
