THE SURPRISE SLIPPABLE SLIP DRESS

You know what? They are criticized as being impractical and, worse, a negligee. But if styled correctly, the slip dress is versatile and can even be the most practical item in your closet.

IT’S ALL THERE CLEVER LAYERING

Forget those images of Kate Moss and Winona Ryder in the naughty ’90s, all sheer fabric and protruding hipbones. I’m not suggesting you wear yours on its own, especially in mid-winter. You can layer the slip dress as a sophisticated piece of clothing, adding silky luxury and sophistication to your ensemble without being too obvious.

SWITCH IT UP ABOUT PREPAY PARTY

You have endless options. Wear yours for work under a buttoned-up jacket and knit. You can also pair it with flat or elegant pumps. You can dress it up with a figure-hugging cotton polo neck and pair your look with trainers. For New Year’s Eve, a simple buttoned cardigan and statement jewellery make it the ultimate ‘not too dressed up’ look.

FIND FIGURE SKIMMING FABRIC

I’m a big fan of this bias-cut slip from Jigsaw. It’s lined so hangs beautifully without highlighting every lump and bump. And there’s no need to spend a fortune, the High Street has a fantastic selection of styles — some for under £30 (see below).
