Everyone has probably received a Christmas present they wish they could exchange or return. However, one woman got more upset than others with one of the presents.
Mumsnet, a UK parenting website, was contacted by the anonymous woman to report that her mother in law had fat-shamed her for giving her an insensitive gift.
Photograph of the present revealed a check cushion with an inscription that said “vulgar humor” and suggested that she no longer jogs as her thighs rub together while her ‘knickers catch fire”.
Commenters quickly suggested that the woman ‘bin’ her’mean’ and ‘naive’ gift or give it to a charity shop.
Unidentified woman filed a Mumsnet complaint against her mother-inlaw for fat-shaming (pictured).

Mumsnet received a post from a woman asking: “Is this present pointing at me?”
‘Don’t really see partner’s mother since Covid as she lives a couple of hours away and she never travels. It used to be small talk once a month.
“She visited for Christmas lunch, and I gave her this present. Are you being ridiculous to think she fat-shames me?
“When she looks at her son, she comments on how pregnant he is. It used to be a habit of mine to run. I don’t now.’
Later, she admitted that she was overweight. She also confessed to having stopped running a while back. You can put the cushion in the bin. I don’t believe she will be seeing me for long as she is so rude.
Photograph of the present included a cushion with the inscription “vulgar humor” on it. It suggested that the woman was no longer running as her thighs rub together, and her ‘knickers caught flames’. This is the post of the woman.
Commenters rushed to assure the woman that she was not being unreasonable and suggested she throw the present away.
One individual wrote, “I would not have anything like that in my house. It’s extremely vulgar and a mean present.”
Another commented, “Like anybody would appreciate it!” Is she storing any inappropriate items in her home? I’d discreetly pick it up next time she visits and then just put it on her couch.
The third person added that it is an insensitive gift. Her intentions may have been good but, except for some inside joke or other reason, it’s not unreasonable.

Another wrote, “Yes she is being rude!” This would mean that you’d go straight to charity shops!
Some said that they thought the cushion was meant to be joked about and did not believe the mother in law was fat-shaming the daughter-in laws.
Another person said, “Sorry, but that’s funny!” It’s not always personal.
One said, “Maybe she thought that it was funny, even if you used jog but no longer does.” Did you have a conversation with someone about the friction between your thighs from jogging? Although I’m not sure she is fat-shaming, it’s a very strange gift.
Reaction: However, some said they believed the cushion was supposed to be taken lightly, as a joke, and didn’t believe the mother-in-law was fat-shaming her daughter-in-law.
