A woman was stunned when she got home from the airport and discovered that the $3,000 worth of gifts she’d purchased in Europe were missing from her suitcase — and in their place was dog food. 

Gina Sheldon from Portsmouth, New Hampshire was delighted to be able to shop for Christmas after returning from an overseas trip.

After spending 11 days in Italy she bought presents for her family, including leather jackets and wristlet purses. 

When she got back home, all the expensive presents that she had bought were gone. Instead, there was a pile upon piles full of dog food and some old, worn out T-shirts, along with a small bottle of shaving cream.

Surprisingly, when she got back home she found that her expensive gifts had all been lost.

Gina estimates that she spent over $3,000 on gifts. All of the items were stolen while in transit.

Gina stopped in Paris on her way home from Italy. She believes the luggage area at Charles DeGaulle Airport, France, was where the items were removed.

Gina told NBC Boston that her first through was that she had accidentally taken someone else’s bag. 

After realizing it was her suitcase, she began to wonder: “How did this happen?”   

According to ABC affiliate WMUR she said, “I believe that they did this because it continues on its journey and goes through scans. It looks just like a luggage product.”

Her flight was booked through Delta Airlines but operated by Air France. Delta said in a statement to NBC Boston that they were working with Gina to 'find a resolution'

“We are in contact with Air France’s partners and customer to resolve the matter.”

Gina has lost thousands of dollars in stuff but she is positive about it.

“I was invited to my friend’s holiday party. I brought all kinds of gifts, but instead, I came in with some champagne and a story,” she explained.
