An ex-student has shared how her new social media venture will help her make six figures.
Alexa Wilkinson (21), from Aberford, Leeds began music studies at Leeds Beckett University, in 2019. She felt ‘pressured’ by the school to enroll, but she almost instantly decided that it was not for her.
After starting her second year, Alexa dropped out of university in February and launched her social media marketing business – Social By Alexa.
She was able to buy a house worth £350,000 with her 22-year-old boyfriend, Jack Walker, in June, saying: ‘Dropping out of university was the best decision I’ve ever made, and I’m set to earn six figures in 2022.’

Alexa was just 16 when she started to influence on Instagram. It ignited her passion for the industry.
She claimed she felt “pressured” to enroll in university, as it was the only thing her school told her to do.
After just three months Alexa realized she was ready to take a new path. She began to learn how to start a company while still taking her classes.
Alexa started working in her own company while she was at university. She did this to get experience.
Alexa, who was in her second year of university, quit and started her own social media marketing agency, Social By Alexa.
She said, “I was interested in learning more about marketing. I spent so much time taking online courses and doing free work to increase my portfolio.
“When I was in the influence, I became more curious about what was happening behind-the scenes at companies and how they use social media.
‘While I was learning I wasn’t going out on nights with friends and meeting up with people, but I was motivated to learn.
After her first year at university she realized it was not the right choice for her.
Alexa purchased a Mercedes after launching her first business. She says that she is excited to expand her company ‘even further’.

Alexa explained that she realized it was not a good idea to continue at the university after my second year. She didn’t plan on pursuing a career music industry and wanted her own business in social media marketing.
I felt forced to go to uni, because it’s what my school required. But it wasn’t worth it.
“I am a driven, motivated young lady and felt that I was wasting my time. I began to learn how to start a business and started planning it towards the end last year.
“My business has been growing steadily since February. I can now earn a good wage, and my financial situation is better than that of most other people my age.
According to the 21-year old, she described herself as motivated and admitted that she felt like she was wasting her time at university, where she studied music.

She explained: ‘Typically, brands will approach me and say they want social media management and that can range from replying to their messages on Instagram to creating the content and strategy.
‘The maximum I charge a brand at the moment is £1,500 and the packages all vary depending on what they need doing.’
Alexa was born in Harrogate (North Yorkshire) and lives now in Leeds, with Jack her rugby player boyfriend.

“Whilst at university, I had financial difficulties. I now own my house and drive a Mercedes-Benz and I am finally living the dream life I always wanted.
“I had no idea that I would buy a home at 20. I have just turned 21. That was when the house was purchased. It was something I never imagined I could do.
Alexa hopes to expand her business and will be looking for more staff to handle the increased workload.

She said: ‘I always knew I wanted to be successful, and I was constantly bullied at school, so this is a huge achievement for me.
Jack has been so kind and supportive to me, my parents have made me so proud.
“I can afford a Mercedes so I’m able to go on vacation, have a home, have a dog and am eager to build the company.”
Alexa is from Harrogate in North Yorkshire. She now lives in Leeds with Jack, her boyfriend and a professional rugby player.
