A young star in Motocross, 19-years old, and two other riders are killed in an avalanche on Austrian ski slopes

  •  The avalanche hit while the group of 11 skiers ascended a slope in Salzburg 
  • The 19-year old European and motocross champions were among the victims
  • Two other men also died and two survivors have been taken to a local hospital 










According to authorities, three people died and two were hurt in an avalanche which struck while they were on skis in Austria. 

These victims belonged to a group consisting of eight skiers who were climbing a slope on Saturday, in Salzburg’s Tweng region.  

Rene Hofer (19-year-old European and junior Motocross World Champion) was among those who were killed. Two other men also died, one of whom was 24 years old.

Regional police released a statement saying that the two survivors were partly submerged by the avalanche. However, they were able escape. 

Two of the victims were located by rescuers using search devices. 

Both had died before the second, and both died in Klagenfurt. 

Because he was not wearing any search devices, the third victim was found four hours later. 

Two injured skiers were transported to nearby hospitals.
