24 Hours of Police Custody on Channel 4 was horrified to hear a child speak out about abuse by a baby killer.

Kane Mitchell, 31 years old, of St Neots (Cambridgeshire), was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for killing baby Teddie. Teddie died after 10 days of life support.

After a four week trial, the Cambridge Crown Court found that the eleven-week-old suffered head injuries from being ‘grabbed hard’ and’shaken vigorously’.

Teddie, his baby brother, died from 17 broken ribs and fractures of his skull and collarbone. He also suffered a brainbleed and spinal damage.

Mitchell, who was involved with Teddie’s mom Lucci Smith (30) for approximately eight months, told police that Mitchell believed he was his baby’s father.

24 Hours In Police Custody on Channel 4 aired footage tonight at 9 PM. It featured footage of Lucci, one of his older children, describing Kane’s abuse.

You can hear him calling Kane “ugly” in the video. He wanted to punch us all.

Many people were shocked at the video, one of them writing that he heard it and felt “broken” by his actions.

Another wrote: ‘I am in absolute bits at #24HoursinPoliceCustody – this is harrowing…absolutely harrowing.’

One of Lucci's children described his abuse during the documentary, which viewers described as 'harrowing'

Lucci’s child described the abuse he suffered during the documentary. Viewers described it as “harrowing.”

Police footage of the couple was shown by officers during the documentary. This happened after Lucci had been reported to have been strangled by Kane.

Lucci was heard yelling at officers that they were making a joke when they arrived at his house. Lucci could be heard yelling: ‘I’m tired of you coming around here now.

Meanwhile Kane said: ‘My kids just f***** died, I’ve got a bail hearing tomorrow and I’ve got you two f****** at my door. I’m sick of this s***.’

Meanwhile a teary Lucci separately told another officer that nothing had happened, adding: ‘It’s taking the p*** now!’

He claimed he saw’marks around the neck of her’. When she inquired if it might have been why they were summoned to her flat, she replied: “It’s likely my tan.” He didn’t touch me. It hasn’t been any arguing.

The officers visited some neighbours and found that many were’scared of Kane’ after they heard arguin speak from their flat.

The police returned to Kane’s flat and arrested him for common assault and domestic violence. However, Lucci stood by her partner.

She replied, “You’re not arresting him.” He is not being held without bail. It’s not true. He hasn’t done anything. He’s not going anywhere.

Kane screamed and shouted at the officers, “You don’t have any proof.” I ain’t done f*** all. Nothing on her. If anything, I think she’s got marks. This is f****** ridiculous.’

Mitchell had been in a relationship with Teddie's mother, Lucci Smith, 30, for about eight months and the pair lived together

Mitchell and Teddie had been together for around eight months. They lived together.

DI Lucy Thompson, of the Major Crime Unit, told the camera: ‘Lucci, we have good strong evidence to show she is a victim of abuse from Kane.

However, she refuses to recognize that she has been abused. This would be unusual of us to tell you that you have been abused and are a victim.

“We can suggest it, but someone who is denial will not see or accept it.”

Kane was taken in by police officers for an interview. Officers were trying to find out the status of Kane’s relationship with Lucci. Kane insists that it’s verbal. It’s not something I like to have a fight or row with someone and then sit down.

“I have 10 minutes to think and get out of the way to diffuse this situation. It doesn’t escalate into her lunging at me or me trying to push back.

DI Lucy Thompson, of the Major Crime Unit, told the camera that the police had 'good evidence' Lucci was a victim of abuse from Kane

DI Lucy Thompson of the Major Crime Unit stated to the camera that there was good evidence Lucci had been abused by Kane.

Kane was brought in for a police interview, with officers questioning the state of his relationship with Lucci, but he insisted: 'It's very verbal'

Kane was taken in by police officers for an interview. Officers were looking into his relationship to Lucci. Kane insists that it’s purely verbal.

“It’s not my job to defuse it. It’s just that I take me out of the equation.

The officer replied, “It is slightly more serious than what you portray.” Some people speak of violence.

“This isn’t the environment that children should be growing up in.

One other said that it was violent and volatile. Teddie suffered a severe head injury due to an event that either Lucie and you have caused to flip.

Officers said they had viewed his phone and were questioning any aggressive messages between them.

Meanwhile after repeatedly being questioned by police, Lucci confessed that Kane had been violent towards her

After being repeatedly questioned by the police, Lucci admitted that Kane was violent towards her.

They recited one message exchange in which Kane had questioned why Lucci should be visiting the park with one of their children’s friend’s parents.

One of the texts read: ‘Answer me , you don’t understand you s*****. My mother’s ashes have been engraved with the words: “Unless you give me Ross’ second surname before you come home, I will beat you.”

“Unless you promise me otherwise, I will have to go into your bedroom to get you dressed and make you comfortable. You must listen, it’s going to be necessary.

Kane however insisted that the threat was only a threat and stated: “I have never touched her.”

During the interview, Teddie’s biological dad was discussed by the officer.

During one harrowing moment in the documentary, Lucci's surviving children could be heard describing how he abused them

One of the most heartbreaking moments in the documentary was when Lucci’s children reminisced about how he abuse them.

She explained that they had performed DNA profiling, and this revealed Teddie was not the father.

After the revelation, you could see him putting his hands on his face and crying. Then he said: “I feel sick.”

Police later stated that they were unable to interview him properly because he seemed to be on the edge of “exploding.”

According to DI Thompson, she also wanted to offer Lucci an opportunity for her to recognize that she was a victim domestic violence.

Lucci, however, insisted that she didn’t have an explanation for Teddie’s death when the pair sat down to interview.

She said that Kane was the one who had argued with her in text messages.

Then she stated that her boyfriend had given her a couple of slaps over the years. She said, “I don’t see how this matters.” He may not do the same thing to Teddie, but he might do it.

During one interview, Lucci promised she would have told police if there had been any violence toward Teddie because, 'he’s my son at the end of the day and he means more to me than anybody'

During one interview, Lucci promised she would have told police if there had been any violence toward Teddie because, ‘he’s my son at the end of the day and he means more to me than anybody’

The  officer then went on: ‘I’m going to ask you a question and look you straight  in the eye. Kane assaulted your on several occasions.

Lucci finally acknowledged his violence by saying, “With me perhaps, but he wouldn’t that to a little child.”

“It does not mean that he would do any thing to my children. I know that he would not do it because he truly loved the baby.

I don’t think it was important.

She burst in tears when Kane was revealed to be Teddie’s biological father by officers.

The police conducted an interview later with Lucci’s oldest child, who lived with Kane and her mother.

The child’s voice can be heard saying, ‘Ugly Kane. He hits me and punches my arm. I consider him ugly.

“He held my leg and pulled me down, and I was on my knees. He gripped my foot tightly and was clenching his teeth.

“And Kane punched Mummy’s Mirror and was bleeding from the hand. Mummy ran in our room to stop him and closed the door.

“He tried to punch us all. [It made me feel sad]Because the glass had fallen to the ground and Mummy accidentally stepped on it.

DI Thompson said that Kane tried to commit suicide by crossing into traffic while on the motorway. He added: “God knows how, but he survived.” A fractured head, fractured elbow and fractured pelvis are all his injuries.

“The important thing is that he tried to commit suicide. It was not half-hearted.

She later said she was stunned to learn Kane was set to be charged with murder,  revealing: ‘Given what he’s done, they have changed their mind and he will be charged on threshold and they will charge him with murder.’

The police entered Kane’s hospital to inform him of the new charges and found him in a ward.

As he was taken to the hospital on a wheelchair, it could be heard him repeating “This is absurd”.

During the first part of the documentary, Mitchell was arrested while pretending to be a caring father in hospital with baby Teddie. He said: 'I don't f***** think so. Oh my god, I would never hurt a baby. I'm not leaving my son'

Mitchell is seen pretending that he was Teddie’s father during part one of the documentary. He said: ‘I don’t f***** think so. O my God! I’d never harm a baby. My son is my only priority.

DI Thompson stated that he first saw him as a grieving father. His personality has evolved and shown the ability to adapt his character depending on the circumstances.

“He is completely devoid any compassion or empathy for Teddie. This is what I find most difficult, Kane’s actions are all that matter and nothing about Teddie.

Many viewers were shocked by the documentary and some even wrote that they felt heartbroken.

Another said: “Omg, those poor poor children.

During the first-part of the documentary series, which aired yesterday, the heartless killer started spouting crocodile tears as he was arrested.

Meanwhile footage also showed Smith being asked by detectives how her son suffered such horrific injuries and she simply replies ‘no idea’.

Birmingham’s backlash to Arthur Labinjo–Hughes’ killing has seen social workers’spatted’ out on the streets by Birmingham police officers

Social workers have been slapped in the streets amid anger over Arthur Labinjoo-Hughes’ tragic death, as a boss of a children’s trust has disclosed.

Arthur, six-years-old, was tortured at home by Emma Tustin before being murdered at her Solihull home.

After Tustin’s sentence of life imprisonment with a minimum of 29 years, and Arthur Hughes’ father being imprisoned for 21 for manslaughter, there was a nationwide outpouring in grief.

Six-year-old Arthur was beaten and tortured before his murder at the hands of stepmother Emma Tustin at her home in Solihull

Arthur, six years old, was tortured and beaten before his death at the hands Emma Tustin’s home in Solihull.

Boris Johnson proposed introducing Arthur’s Law to stop child-killers being freed from prison.

Solihull Council’s leader also demanded an independent verification of Arthur’s involvement by the local authorities.

Jenny Turnross (director of practice, Birmingham Children’s Trust) has now confirmed reports of social workers being verbally and physically abused in the course of this case. One encounter saw a social worker being spit on in the street.

Ms Turnross is the Trust’s Social Worker and oversees 800 of them.

Thomas Hughes

Following the death of Arthur Hughes in his father’s murder, Thomas Hughes was sent to prison for 21 years.

It was discovered that the Cambridgeshire Police and social services had been alerted by concerned neighbours several weeks prior to Teddie’s death.

Footage from just before Mitchell’s arrest showed him holding his victim in hospital while he sobbed and said: ‘Come on baby, Daddy’s here.’

The ambulance was summoned at Pattison Court St Neots on the 1st of November 2019, 3:00 p.m. Teddie was declared unresponsive, and in cardiac arrest.

Smith left Teddie with Mitchell while Mitchell did her morning school run.

Detective Inspector Lucy Thompson stated that Mitchell was completely without remorse and empathy. That’s what I find most difficult about him.

“It’s about Kane, not Teddie.

This clip shows Mitchell pretending to father Teddie in hospital and was then arrested.

He said: ‘I don’t f***** think so. O my God! I’d never harm a baby. I won’t leave my son.

Because of the type of injuries that were suffered, officers could prove Mitchell had murdered Teddie.

Teddie died as a result of his fractured skull and lack of oxygen to the brain.

Staff at the hospital were worried about Teddie’s injuries. Mitchell, Smith and Smith were all arrested.

The jury at Cambridge Crown Court heard Teddie’s story of abuse and neglect during Teddie’s short time with Kane Mitchell. Mitchell is not Teddie’s biological father.

24 Hours of Police Custody: cold to the touch, a Channel 4 documentary, asked the council what it did to address concerns raised by concerned neighbours regarding the safety of their children.

The Express was informed by a spokesperson for the council that ‘a serious case review has begun and that results should be published in the latter part of this year. We are unable to comment until the findings have been published.

Teddie was killed by Teddie Thompson’s mother, Ms. Thompson. She said that Teddie died at the hands of someone who ought to have protected him.

“Our one-year investigation revealed Teddie had sustained multiple terrible injuries over his brief life. Mitchell and Smith couldn’t explain this.

“Viewers will be able to see the complexity and intricacies involved with such a tragic and emotive case.

The show demonstrates that no matter how difficult it is, we are determined to get those who have committed such terrible crimes to justice.

“We hope this will motivate anyone with concerns regarding a child’s well-being to get in touch immediately.

Witnesses from nearby homes gave statements to the jury that they’d heard arguments from the home on a regular basis. They also stated that Mitchell had lived in the same house since he moved in.

Mitchell stated that he believes Teddie was his biological father during a police interview.

However, his DNA test after the death confirmed that he wasn’t.

Further footage from the TV program showed that officers constantly monitored Teddie’s condition while Teddie was being treated.

In February, Mitchell was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court to minimum 18 years imprisonment.

Smith was found guilty after failing to call 999 for over half an hour, despite being urged by her GP.

His death is reminiscent of the injuries which killed 16-month-old Star Hobson who was murdered by Savannah Brockhill, 28, the girlfriend of her mother Frankie Smith.

Mrs Justice Lambert stated that Star suffered from a ‘fatal punch/kick’ and lost half her blood. She also had internal injuries.

Brockhill was sentenced to 25 years in prison for Star’s murder, while Smith was given eight years because she did nothing.

Mrs Justice Lambert said: Frankie Smith, Star was in your responsibility to save her from harm. You failed to do so, and she died.

“The force necessary to cause these injuries must be immense – comparable to forces involved in a road accident.”

Police released a picture of Star smiling happily before the torment from her mother and her murdering girlfriend began
