Victoria Derbyshire is said to be the next big name looking to walk away from the BBC as it’s revealed Channel 4 had talks with the news presenter.

Her Bafta-winning BBC2 show, Victoria Derbyshire, was axed in 2020 and the 53-year-old journalist has now been one of the leading BBC News Channel presenters since.

But her £170,000-a-year role could soon be the victim of new cuts as BBC World News and BBC News merge to create a single 24-hour TV news channel serving both UK and international audiences.

The Times says she has been looked at by BBC insiders to replace Emily Maitlis on Newsnight – who also departed the corporation alongside other big names Dan Walker, Jon Sopel and Andrew Marr – but Derbyshire is apparently looking for a new challenge.

She was also being considered for the Leeds-based Channel 4 role, but she wasn’t appointed because bosses needed someone who lives in the north.

Some of the notable names who left include Jon Sopel (now with LBC), Dan Walker, and Andrew Marr.

Channel 4’s head of news and current affairs, Louisa Compton, apparently wanted Debryshire to join the team.

But Esme Wren, Channel 4 News’s editor, wanted someone else and Krishnan Guru-Murthy became the main anchor after Jon Snow left the news programme.

The Corporation will eliminate BBC Four and CBBC as linear television channels. In addition, the BBC has made major cash-saving announcements that it will reduce up to 1000 jobs in the future.

Last month’s speech by Director General Tim Davie to employees stated that the BBC needed to reform in order to remain relevant, continue to offer great value to all and be ‘digital first’.

Changes to the channel’s content include Blue Peter, Horrible Histories or the Scandinavian hit Killing. The new channels will only be accessible online on BBC iPlayer. Radio 4 Extra will move to BBC Sounds.

BBC World News will merge with BBC News to create BBC News. The broadcaster claims that BBC News will offer ‘greater amounts of content shared’ but will be able to broadcast separate programs depending on the events in the UK or abroad.

This comes as the BBC is experiencing a rapid “brain drain” and a number of its on-air talent have left to join their rivals.

Marr, Sopel and Maitlis joined LBC to take advantage of the golden handcuffs agreement that would have them receive huge raises.

After joining Global, the journalists created chaos at Broadcasting House. Global is also home Nick Ferrari, Shelagh Folgarty, and James O’Brien.

While Breakfast presenter Dan Walker ditched a £295,000-295,999 salary at the BBC for Channel 5 News earlier this year.

Maitlis hosted Newsnight and was subject to a number of impartiality complaints. This was because she tweeted about the pandemic, as well as her comments on air.

Marr said to have confessed to leaving the BBC to be able to discuss important issues such as politics and climate change.

In the last year, BBC presenters Simon McCoy and Andrew Neil have both left.

According to reports, Lewis Goodall was also a Newsnight reporter who left Newsnight in order to fix the corporation’s left-wing bias problem.

After growing weary of the BBC’s bias, the policy editor on the flagship programme is leaving to be with Maitlis and Sopel.

According to reports, the corporation heads let the 32 year-old, who was a Labour activist but had previously worked at a Left-wing thinktank, go without making a counter-offer. They viewed his departure as a chance for the organization to start over.

Telegraph – A Telegraph insider said that the Telegraph had learned from an insider: “This is an important program, and it is crucial we get it right.

“We are determined and will do it, and people moving on creates new opportunities.”

The spokesperson for BBC declined to comment.
