She says, “The whole street doesn’t need to be able to see your pants.” Woman slams neighbors for hanging their laundry out in front of her driveway.

  • Mumsnet was contacted by a woman who complained about noisy, messy neighbors.
  • They also dry their clothes and listen to music while they wait in the driveway.
  • Commenters were torn over whether was being reasonable or not

After messy neighbors drying their laundry on their driveways, a woman was left feeling frustrated.

After becoming angry at her neighbors’ habit of drying their laundry outside, an anonymous woman contacted Mumsnet (a British parenting forum).

The neighbor across the street claimed she also used her car to talk loudly while speaking on the speakerphone.

Although she said she would forgive the majority of their loud behavior, she said that it was too difficult to see their pants.

The commenters were divided over whether or not she was entitled to request them to be more discrete.

Explaining that the neighbours were generally messy and noisy in their front garden, the woman shared that she'd had enough

After explaining that neighbours were often noisy and unruly in their front yard, the woman said that she had had enough.

She spoke out about her neighbors, saying: “We have new neighbors, they seem like they live in their garage.”

They were a constant fixer of their vehicles, parking in front of others’ drives. They sit in their cars and open the doors, smoking, or listening to music.

“Now dry their clothes on an airer in the front yard. Do you think it is unreasonable to put the laundry in your backyard like other people?

“The rest of the street is enough to be bad, but you don’t have to look at your pants!”

Some commenters couldn't see the problem and implored the woman to focus on something else

Others couldn’t grasp the problem, and urged the woman not to get distracted.

Some people were surprised that the neighbor woman was drying her laundry.

Someone suggested there could be good reasons, especially for those who live in areas with limited sun.

She stated that her family lived in an area of high-quality frong gardens. “The back garden was overshadowed and had mole infestations (the entire street),” she said. They were huge, sunlit and dry.

Another added: ‘It’s very much their prerogative where they wash their clothes, I would leave it.’

Some commenters were on the woman's side and claimed they also wouldn't stand for the noise and the washing

Commenters argued for the woman and stated that they would not stand for noise and washing.

Another thought that their opinions were out of date, commenting: “Keeping up appearances are a thing past.”

Others commented that the neighbors were annoying and that she was entitled to be mad.

One individual said that it would be annoying to me because it was untidy. One person did this on a street close to us, but neighbors protested and it was made the national news.

She thought that the neighbors were wrong, but was wrongly focusing her attention on what she meant. “I would be more concerned about them blocking driveways, playing music, and having conversations with people on the speaker while the car doors are open, than I would be about washing my clothes!”

Another person said: “I understand you.” That’s about the same level as having an old sofa in the front garden, or painting 3 feet tall house numbers in emulsion on the front of the house.’
