Pantone’s Colour of the Year, ‘Very peri’, is an entirely NEW color that includes ‘periwinkle and energizing purple’.

Pantone released a new color as the official “Color of the the year for 2022” for the first time ever in its 22-year history.

According to the US branding firm, the purpose of creating a new colour and breaking all traditionalities was to “truly reflect our transformative times” 

The hue is  described as a ‘vibrant shade of periwinkle blue with energizing violet-red undertones’. 

The creation of a new color symbolizes the ‘unprecedented time of change’, according to the claim. This is a nod to the problems that have plagued the globe this year due the coronavirus pandemic.

Pantone has chosen two shades as its Color of the Year 2021, namely ‘Illuminating yellow’ and ’Ultimate Gray.

Pantone says they used a ‘familiar and steadfast blue’, but added energy to it by injecting it with ‘dynamic violet. 

Pantone’s method of determining the annual color trend involves polling retailers, manufacturers, designers and other stakeholders about the colors they will use in the coming 12 months.

The film and entertainment industry, fashion, and socio-economics are all sources of inspiration.

New technologies, materials and textures can also have an impact on color and other relevant social media platforms.

Pantone selected Classic Blue for its 2020 color of the Year. The color of the year for 2020 was Living Coral, while it chose Ultra Violet in 2018.
