Shakespeare was raised and born in Stratford-upon-Avon (Warwickshire).

Anne Hathaway, his 18-year-old bride, was the father of three children: Susanna (with twins Hamnet & Judith).

Shakespeare started his career as an actor in London sometime between 1585-1592.

His company was called The Lord Chamberlain’s Men and later the King’s Men.

The Globe Theatre was built in Southwark (South London), where they presented many Shakespeare plays.

In 1613 the theatre was burned. It was rebuilt the year after that. Finally, it was closed in 1642.

The Globe’s modern reconstruction, called ‘Shakespeare’s Globe’ was constructed less than 800 feet away from the original site and was opened for public in 1997.

Shakespeare, who was 49 years old, is said to have returned to Stratford after he had retired. He died three years later.

There are not many records about his private life, and there is much speculation as to his physical appearance.

Some question whether the works given to him are actually written by other people.
