Adele Roberts shared her shock diagnosis of cancer and described the consequences of having the tumor removed.

Radio 1’s 42-year-old DJ shared the sad news that she was diagnosed with bowel cancer on October 24. This post came a month after she learned she had it.

The I’m A Celebrity actress spoke live on Good Morning Britain about her diagnosis in her first interview since it was announced.

Speaking to hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard, she explained: ‘It was a shock. I didn’t realise I could get cancer which I know sounds silly because I know now it can happen to anyone at any age.

‘I’m vegetarian. I’m healthy. I exercise.’

Describing the first warning signs, she said: ‘My digestion started to get a bit funny – after what we ate in the jungle I wasn’t surprised.

‘I noticed when I went to the toilet things like mucus and then blood. I didn’t know whether to call the doctor because of Covid I didn’t want to bother anyone. But it got so consistent that I thought I’d better call up just in case.’

Despite all she’s been through, Adele remains positive and hopeful she’ll be back to her ‘normal self’ by the summer.

She said: ‘I feel like I’ve not really taken it on board. I’m just trying to get through each day. The NHS have been awesome. 

‘I’ve been able to get back on Radio One and I’m on chemotherapy. Hopefully by the middle of this year I’ll be back to my normal self.’

Adele’s girlfriend Kate Holderness was by her side throughout the interview, and voiced her support for her brave partner.

She praised: ‘She’s been amazing. It’s been just 16 weeks since that diagnosis. What she’s been through – Surgery, a stoma, chemo – she’s been amazing.’

Adele underwent surgery to remove the tumour at the end of last year, and she revealed: ‘So far I believe they’ve managed to remove the tumour.

“It was placed in an awkward spot, but they saved my bottom. Audrey is the name of my stoma. When I have finished my chemo, I should feel well.

Concluding the interview, Adele gave a message of advice to her viewers, saying: ‘I wanna say to people please get checked. Don’t be embarrassed. Doctors are great and will take care of you.

Adele keeps her followers updated via social media about her recovery journey.

Last month, she told her fans that “this little Stoma Bag saved my life”. However, she acknowledged it was difficult for her to adjust to and said: “I feel like I need to train it.” It’s wild! Haha. It does what it wants when it wants… but I’m sure I’ll get there.’  

Since her announcement of her illness, the star has received a flood of support. 

Adele said to her worried followers, “Just a quick note of thanks to everybody.” Your kindness and support have been amazing! Thank you so much for being kind and caring about my family.

Adele said, “You’re the best!” I’ve been able to keep going because of you. Although I have had some ups and downs throughout the week, today I feel that I am starting to make progress and I will be able to return home shortly.  

Adele was first famous when she participated in Big Brother’s third season in 2002 with fellow Big Brother housemates Alison Hammond, Jade Goody and Kate Lawler.

After 43 days of being in the house for 43 days, Southport presenter from Merseyside came in at seventh.

Although she talked about being bisexual in the series, she hadn’t revealed to her parents her sexuality at that time.

She participated in a panel organized by charity RU Coming Out, as reported by Gay Star News.
