Adele’s 30th album had the largest opening week in 2021. However, it also was 75% less than her first album.

The singer, 33, thrilled fans and critics alike with 30 which reportedly sold 838,000 copies in its first week, mostly from CDs and downloads.

According to Showbiz411, the breakdown of sales came to 678,782 in CDs and downloads while streaming accounted for 152,690.

Although Adele has the best opening week for any album this year, it is still less than the 2.5 million she sold when the album was first released in November 2015.

25 Adele’s album was Adele’s third. It sold a staggering 18,000,000 copies globally in the first year.

This could be partly due to the decline in album sales over the past several years, as more listeners switch to streaming.

MCR Data estimates that the US has sold 507 million albums in 2007. This figure is down each year.

It comes after Adele stated that she is a ‘dying breed’ in the music industry, in a chat that came shortly before she made ‘crossover chart history’ with her comeback song Easy On Me.

She spoke out about her being in “such a rare place in culture”, acknowledging Drake and other superstars were among the very few to have made their name before streaming.

After the song was over, the hitmaker suggested that social media had played an important role in the failure to create a lasting impact on the music business in modern times.
