After Paul Drayton, Alan Carr’s husband of alcoholic Paul Drayton shared with him a photo with his black eye that he claimed was taken after they had “had a row”, their relationship never healed. 

Paul’s Instagram picture in April of last year showed the funnyman with the injury. He also captioned it ‘we had one row’. The post was believed by the comedian, who felt that the Instagram post could ruin his career.

Close friends and co-hosts of the chat program, 45, feel this was the end of their difficult relationship that had become strained over Paul’s drinking problems.

Adele, a close friend of Alan’s who he helped during the high-profile separation from Simon Konecki, is comforting him now.

MailOnline received this information from a reliable source: “Alan knew Paul was threatening his career and that it could have disastrous consequences.”

“They were able to rectify the situation and Alan’s reputation was not damaged. But it could have been worse. It could have been the last straw in an endless series of problems.

“Alan has supported Adele through difficult times like he did for her after her divorce.

It’s a difficult time for everyone, but the moment was right.

Paul, age 50, took out the photo of him with the black eyes after one hour. The next day, Paul released a statement affirming that Alan would never and had never hit me.

Chatty Man’s star explained that Paul’s injuries were due to him “being back on track” and that he wasn’t involved in the incident as he was in Wales filming at the time.

Paul was also told by him that he would be receiving all the support he requires to improve his life.

Alan Carr, a spokesperson for the couple confirmed their split. The statement read: ‘After 13 years as couples and three years of marriage Alan Carr and Paul Drayton would be happy to announce that they are divorcing.

“They have made the difficult and mutually agreeable decision to divorcing and going their separate ways. At this time, we ask that they respect their privacy.

Adele Konecki, Alan’s friend and close confidante filed for divorce from Simon Konecki in September 2019. They were married for two years.

The comedian was Adele’s rock in the split of her marriage, as she records on her 25th album.

Two months ago, Paul pleaded guilty in a case of drink driving. He was four times the legal limit when he got behind the wheel.

The judge told him that it would be a miracle no one had been killed and warned him that he could face jail.

Paul was accused of drink-driving after he reversed into a police car, narrowly missing a mother pushing a pram, while in his Mitsubishi 4×4 in West Sussex, just three miles from the £2.7 million home he shares with Alan.

He initially denied the charges but at Brighton Magistrates Court he admitted guilt. For sentencing purposes, the case was adjourned.

Paul posted a long Instagram post January 1 admitting that 2021 was full of ups and downs. He also apologized for hurting his family.

“This year has brought me many ups and downs. “I’d like you to know how much I appreciate your love and support,” he said. “Over the past few months, I have taken steps to prioritize my recovery. Although this is an ongoing journey that will last a lifetime, it’s one I am deeply committed to.

“I accept responsibility for all my actions, and I am sorry for any harm I have caused when I wasn’t myself.” Thank you for your continued support, my extended family and friends, as well as me, I’m so thankful.

In January 2018, the couple were married with Adele, a friend of Alan. Adele paid for the wedding at his California residence.

Alan spoke to The One Show just after the nuptials and revealed that the singer, whom he knows since she was 19 years old, got ordained in order for her to perform the wedding.

Alan confessed: ‘Yeah, [it was]It was January. Our wedding took place in Adele’s garden in LA. You don’t need any postcodes. I’ve known her and Paul since ages.

“She replied, “I want to make your special day memorable.” It is my goal to be everywhere. They were married and she was ordained. She is the sweetest, kindest woman I know. To see Celine Dion in concert, she flew us all to Vegas. She [Adele] sang my first dance. It was the most memorable day of my entire life.

“It was wonderful. “I just wanted to share it with everyone. Because she is so private, she won’t tell anyone. She planned everything, flowers, and a three-course dinner. It was the most memorable day of my life.

After a decade of love, Alan and Paul got married. They honeymooned in Los Cabos, Mexico.

It’s terrible when you realize how awful it has gotten. The star wrote, “You’re watching somebody kill themselves.”

“I was ready to go. It’s the lies that get you – the, ‘Oh I’ll never drink again’. And then you go out, realise you’ve forgotten your car keys, go back and… [Paul would be drinking.]

“I could not cope because I wasn’t sure if he would fall or put food on the stove and then fall asleep. His grey hair was a constant companion. It was almost like witnessing someone pass away.

Paul is revealing that he’s gone 650 consecutive days without drinking. He posted the information on Instagram during the initial coronavirus lockdown. Even if it’s just to get rid of the boring! I am so glad I did not wake up that day.

Alan says lockdown has made it tempting for his husband, a teetotaler to drink again. Paul said that lockdown was hard. Paul has been asking me, “Oh, can we have a bottle?” and I say, ”No, we’re not getting any rosé wine in”. He has been so great and I am so proud of him,” the comedian states.

Paul shared a picture of himself with black eyes on Instagram. He told a fan that he had been in a row and removed the image within one hour.

The next day he insists Alan ‘has never hit me,’ writing on social media: ‘I’m feeling very fragile at the minute and would like to say that Alan would not and has never hit me. He has to face this now, and I am devastated. 

Alan made the statement after his husband had posted the black-eye image. He said that the injury resulted from him “being back on track”. 

September 2021  

Alan explains that he had given up alcohol to help his husband stay sober,  revealing he had six months off that spanned Christmas and New Year but he had since returned to drinking.

‘It was the worst f****ing Christmas I’ve ever had. And my mother didn’t help by offering him a Bailey’s and going: ‘It’s only Bailey’s – what’s the worst that can happen!” Paul’s words are echoed by Alan.
