Vladimir Putin could not stop after he takes Ukraine. Tony Blinken, U.S. Secretary, has warned that satellite images have shown Russia building troops, armor, and artillery near Belarus’s border to Poland.

ABC News interviewed Anthony Blinken Thursday night to ask him if the Russian president will recall his forces after Ukraine is conquered.

“Is there a chance that Putin will go beyond Ukraine?” Yes, that’s possible,” Blinken said to David Muir.

However, he said that moving beyond Ukraine to neighboring Poland or Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, would require invading NATO member countries. It would also automatically attract the US and UK as well as France and Canada, which are part of the 30-country alliance.

Blinken said that Article Five was a very powerful thing standing in the way.

Blinken said, “That means that any attack on one NATO member is an assault on all NATO members.” “The President has made it very clear that we will protect every inch of NATO land.”

Jack Detsch, foreign policy correspondent, reported that Russia had assembled soldiers, artillery and armor in Brest near the Polish border. Russia added additional equipment to a Belarusian railway yard.

Blinken stated that he believes this will be the most powerful deterrent against Putin’s artillery going beyond Ukraine.

“I believe he is going to try that.”

Blinken stated that regardless of the outcome of the fighting, democracy and independence in Ukraine would prevail.

Russia declared an all out war against Ukraine on Wednesday night and Thursday morning. There were simultaneous air, land, and sea attacks from the south, east, and north. After Putin issued the command to strike, missiles and bombs fell from the skies, and tanks were deployed along the border. Helicopters buzzed in, and there was a flurry of explosions across the country.

On Thursday, a huge Russian helicopter attack launched against Hostomel (Ukraine) and its Air Base located 9 miles north of Kyiv.

After assembling his National Security Council at the White House in the Situation Room, the president met Thursday morning with leaders from the G7 countries of Britain, Canada France, Germany and Italy. The NATO Secretary General, the President of NATO and the President of European Commission were also present at the G7 meeting.

Biden will speak at 1:30 on Thursday about Russia’s unprovoked, unjustified attack against Ukraine. It is his first appearance in public since the invasion.

Biden announced Tuesday that the first tranche of sanctions would be in effect. It was a small step that left Republicans and Democrats expressing concern that the Trump administration has not been tough enough with Russia and Putin, even though they are waging war.

Also, it did not prevent Putin from moving into Ukraine immediately.

Even after taking additional actions, which included sanctioning the company responsible for the Nord Stream 2 Russia–to-Germany natural-gas pipeline, both Congress and the internal pressures are strong to have Biden issue further ‘crippling Sanctions’.

The Chairman of House Intelligence Committee Adam Schiff made a call for additional sanctions from the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility, (SCIF), on Capitol Hill.

“Russia launched an unprovoked and unjustified campaign against Ukraine, with a complete-on invasion,” the Democratic California congressman said. The Democratic California congressman said that civilians were being murdered and Ukraine was mobilizing opposition to Russian invasion. We must support Ukraine to defend itself.

Schiff stated, “We are also going to have to, I believe, dramatically escalate our sanctions against Russia for this act naked aggression by Kremlin dictator,”

Bloomberg points out that while White House officials continue to brag about the possibility of heavier punishments, there is still some doubt as to how the White House has been executing its strategy.

Biden has ruled out any military involvement. Now, he must prove that sanctions are sufficient to deter a major enemy, something it hasn’t proven effective so far.

Around 90,000 U.S. troops are currently stationed in Europe. A lot of these soldiers have been deployed or repositioned to Eastern NATO allies to counter growing Russian aggression.
