Emma Raducanu might be Britain’s most loved athlete right now but she is still easily confused with an ex-Premier League player.
Earlier this month, the teenager appeared in Sports Direct’s Christmas advert alongside Manchester City’s midfielder Jack Grealish and a host of other sport stars.
The clip also featured Big Narstie, a rapper who was expecting to meet Nwankwo Kanu, an ex-Arsenal striker. This came after a very embarrassing mix up.
Big Narstie believed that he would be the star of an advert featuring Nwankwo Kanu, and not Emma Raducanu
On Channel 4, the British rapper, (pictured above), admitted to his error during a TV interview
According to the TV host, he agreed to be featured in the Christmas commercial because he wanted to make contact with the Nigerian. Surprised, the US Open champion turned up.
‘They said, “Yeah you’re gonna be with Kanu” so I’m like, “This is gonna be lit”,’ he said on Channel 4’s ‘The Big Narstie Show’, according to The Sun.
‘I’m in this ting now’ and I was like, “Where’s Kanu?” You know that it was a girl.
Raducanu rose to the 25th spot in the rankings after his win at the US Open.
The Briton lost in the round of 16 of the Upper Austria Ladies Open this week
“Does anyone know what I went through? It was this girl, she’s a big superstar tennis player.
‘I didn’t hear the Emma Radu part, all I heard was Kanu.’
Raducanu became tennis’ latest star in September when she was the first British woman to win a Grand Slam event since Virginia Wade won at Wimbledon 1977. She beat Bianca Andreescu, in the final of the US Open.
Raducanu was 18 when he won, and he went on to become one of the 25 most valuable players in the world.
Kanu (center) has won 2 Premier League titles, and 2 FA Cups with Arsenal in 6 seasons.
Six seasons were also spent at Portsmouth by the Nigerian, where he was awarded the FA Cup in 2008.
After losing at Indian Wells, September’s first round, she was eliminated from the Transylvania Open quarterfinals. She then lost in the Round of 16 at the Upper Austria Ladies Open.
Kanu, a gold medallist in Nigeria’s 1996 Olympic Games, was stationed in England for 14 seasons, where he played with Arsenal West Bromwich Portsmouth and West Bromwich. Kanu also won two Premier League titles as well as three FA Cups.
As a Unicef Goodwill Ambassador, the Nigerian won both the Champions League with Ajax (now with Inter Milan) and the UEFA Cup together with Inter Milan.
