Boris Johnson, Sajid Javid and others are telling Britons today that they need to get their Covid-19 booster jabs.
Reminding the public of the risks still posed by coronavirus, the Prime Minister says those who have been double-vaccinated should not be ‘over-confident’ about their immunity – and risk becoming ‘seriously ill’ if they fail to take up the offer to get their third.
He said that people don’t realize the first two jabs begin to wane and urged the over-50s who are eligible for a booster shot six to seven months after their second jab to make an appointment.
The Mail on Sunday reported that ministers want people to be in a position to book their boosters a month ahead of the due date. However, there have been delays.
Last night, Mr Javid stated that he had asked officials to modify the booking system so that those who are eligible can book their booster at five-months so that they can get their jab as soon their six-month mark.
“This change will take place in the coming days.
“You will not only be protecting yourself but you will also be giving this country the best chance to get through the winter without restrictions.
Echoing Johnson’s warning, Mr Johnson warned that the Health Secretary stated: “Although our vaccines offer powerful protection, but we know that the protection provided by a Covid-19 vaccine wanes over time, just the way it does with other vaccinations.

Sajid Javid, Health Secretary (pictured), said that, despite the fact that vaccines provide powerful protection, they also know that the protection provided by Covid-19 vaccines diminishes over time just like other vaccines.
“This is most likely to be evident in older people and clinically at-risk populations. A small drop in immunity could have a huge impact on our NHS, resulting in many lives lost.
“I am asking all eligible people to summon the collective spirit that got us this far, and do their bit for our country by getting boosted.
Friday’s booster jabs totalled 270,785 – bringing the total to 7,564,423. Over the past week, 273,000 were given on average daily.
The peak seven-day average rolling average for second jabs was 416,000. It is:
- Positive Covid test results fell by 14% week on week to 41.278, suggesting that the spike may be ending. There were 166 deaths reported, an increase of more than 17 percent compared to seven days ago. Hospital admissions increased almost 6 percentage points to 1,038
- Johnson stated that he could not see any evidence that any lockdown was being planned to ruin Christmas.
- Mr Javid promised more action to jab children aged 12-15, but said there had been an’surge’ over half-term with almost 333,000 bookings for this group last Monday.
- Demonstrators marched again through London to protest against the introduction of vaccine passports for winter Covid Plan B’.
- A paramilitary-style paramilitary group, Veterans 4 Freedom, is behind a legal threat against a school for giving jabs to children. Global Veterans Alliance allows parents the ability to download ‘cease-and-desist’ letters to send to schools if their children want to be vaccinated.
Johnson stated that, while Covid cases were ‘highly’, they ‘does not constitute any reason for Plan B’ and tightened regulations.
He stated that ‘Rather than thinking up new restrictions, the best thing everyone can do is to get the booster shot as soon as they are offered it.
He expressed concern over double-jabbed people not bothering to get a booster.
