A four-year old boy was killed when the off-road bicycle he was on collided in County Durham with a lamppost.

  • It is believed that the child was a passenger in the car which collided at noon yesterday.
  • The Eldon Lane, County Durham area was where Smash occurred. 
  • He was flown by Royal Victoria Infirmary and was declared dead at his arrival  










Four-year-old boy was killed when the off-road bicycle he was riding collided to a lamppost. 

According to some reports, the child may have been in the passenger seat of the vehicle that crashed into the Eldon Lane, County Durham post at 1:45 yesterday.    

Durham Police reported that he was taken by air ambulance to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, where he was declared dead upon arrival.

Durham Police spokesperson said, “Police are investigating the death of a four year-old boy from Bishop Auckland.”

“It’s believed that the child was a passenger in an off-road bicycle when it struck a lamppost just after noon yesterday (Sunday 23 January) in Eldon Lane.

“He was flown to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary but was declared dead upon arrival.

North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said that they received a 911 call shortly before noon to Bishop Auckland.

“We dispatched the paramedic ambulance, the rapid response car and an air ambulance.

“A boy received treatment at the scene and was then transported by an air ambulance to Newcastle’s RVI.

Investigators appeal to anyone who has any information to call them.
