A newly-wed couple ended up in hospital on their wedding night after the groom crashed a £200,000 Lamborghini which then burst into flames, a court heard.

Ali Zaman (26), and his bride, took the supercar of their wedding guest for a spin following their February 15th marriage ceremony.

After’macho-pleading’ with another driver at Bradford’s traffic lights in West Yorkshire, Zaman drove off and met the motorist that he had challenged.

The Lamborghini burst into flames after the smash-up and both vehicles were written off, while Zaman and his wife suffered minor injuries, Bradford Crown Court heard.

Amazing video footage of the wreckage was captured after the collision. It showed the car completely engulfed and the emergency crews racing to its rescue.

The court learned that Zaman took the Lamborghini Huracan green without the knowledge of his guest.

When he arrived, the wedding guest secured the Lamborghini in the parking lot.

However, he discovered that the keys had been lost when he went to leave.

A wedding guest believed Zaman took the Lamborghini, and attempted to call him.

Supercar drivers over 30 years old were allowed to use the insurance policy.

Recorder Richard Wright Q.C. said Zaman (25 at the time) ‘didn’t meet any criteria’ and that he had no third-party insurance.

Storm Dennis was full-fledged on the day before the wedding. He described heavy rains as ‘raining sideways’, which caused severe flooding. “Troublesome road conditions”

Zaman had taken the green Lamborghini Huracan (file photo of vehicle) without his guest's knowledge, Bradford Crown Court heard

Bradford Crown Court was informed that Zaman took the Lamborghini Huracan green (file photo) without notifying his guest.

Court heard that Zaman was seen driving through Bradford’s city center at 10.05pm and for 20 minutes with relatively slow speeds.

Wright stated that the new-wed drove ‘perfectly’ and’mostly’ well until he reached a set traffic lights at Wakefield Road.

He macho posed with another vehicle, and then flew off at excessive speed. Then he collided with the car from the lights.

Both vehicles in the accident were declared ‘write-offs’.

One party sustained a severe injury to his left eye that required stitches. Zaman and his spouse also received minor injuries.

Summary: Mr Wright stated, “It was your marriage day. You will always remember it because you drove a Lamborghini car around Bradford streets in reckless and stupid decisions.”

He said, “You were doing macho with another driver at the sideline of traffic lights in treacherous road conditions.”

“You drive like the clappers and reach speeds of up to 90 mph before you lose control and crash your car, inflicting injury on your wife, and the man at the lights.

“It was an act of total stupidity and it had serious consequences.”

According to Wright, the severity of the accident and the charges against it were enough to warrant a sentence.

However, Zaman felt it fitting to bring the matter back to his attention due to Zaman’s excellent character references. He also described it as an’moment in madness’ and said it would never be repeated.

Mr Wright says Zaman works full time, has a stable marital relationship, and is an excellent father.

He said, “You might be lucky that your wife chose to stay it out with your wedding.

Zaman admitted to driving a motor car dangerously, and assaulting another person, thereby causing them bodily injury.

The sentence included a community order for 18 months, 180 hours unpaid community work, disqualification from driving for one year and payment of a victim surcharge.
