Roberts even claimed that his partner was pregnant with twins. However, police were alerted after her brother noticed something wasn’t right with the ultrasound. Roberts accused Roberts’ partner of domestic abuse in a police interview.

Carwyn Roberts, 29, from Gwynedd in Wales, was pictured. He met his victim through Plenty of Fish, a dating site, in 2018. She then moved into her Bangor flat.
Jade Tufail, the prosecutor, stated that Roberts had moved in with her in Bangor (northwest Wales) after they met in Plenty of Fish 2018
They were described as “amazing”, and their relationship is still being described as such. victim’s young daughter even referred to Roberts as ‘daddy Carwyn’, the court was told.
The woman’s previous relationship had ended ‘acrimoniously’ and had left her ‘in a bad way’, including engaging in self-harming. Roberts was informed about her concerns.
Miss Tufail said Roberts told the woman he was inheriting £300,000 from his grandfather’s brother and that he would use the money to buy their dream home.
Roberts told the woman that his family will handle all legal matters after they went out to see houses.
But there was no money or family lawyer doing the conveyancing work, and the emails the woman received about the house purchase were being sent by her partner from a bogus account he had set up, the court was told.

Roberts was then told his partner he was Receiving prank calls from strangers claiming that she is being unfaithful.
He stated that he discovered them. Hidden cameras installed in her flat had captured her having sex. Men began to question her about her sexual history, according to the court.
Roberts told the woman that although she claimed no such activity occurred, she said she can’t recall what had happened. She was a drugged, sexually abused and police involved.
Miss Tufail said that at the same time, Roberts started emailing his partner from another fake email account, claiming to be a woman called Amanda Davies, who supposedly worked with him in the local authority.
“Amanda Davies” persuaded his victim to quit her job at a school in the area and accept a position in the local council.
Roberts returned home even with a badge of work in the name of his partner, along with induction and training materials to try to conceal the fraud.
A fake council email account then contacted the victim to say her partner had been drugged at work in a leisure centre in Caernarfon by an associate of her ex-boyfriend.
In the days that followed, emails were received claiming to be from a nurse and saying Roberts had been drugged. He would no longer be able have children.
The court was told that the victim ‘broke down crying’ after being told this news because she had wanted to have a child with the defendant.
Amanda Davies created an email account and began giving instructions to Amanda Davies about how she could have sex. This was in the hope of increasing their chance of having children.

Mold Crown Court was informed that he convinced her partner she was pregnant. However, police were alerted by her brother’s partner who noticed an anomaly in the ultrasound.
The court heard that Roberts and Roberts had been packing their belongings for the move while the fraud about buying the property was going on.
Miss Tufail stated that the victim was effectively ‘brainwashed into following the instructions in emails.
Roberts returned with an ultrasound that showed a twin pregnancy. He convinced his girlfriend she was also pregnant.
He also confirmed her pregnancy by sending her emails via a bogus email account.
Later, it was revealed that Roberts had done extensive internet searches in order to obtain a fake image of an ultrasound.
According to the court, although the victim seemed confused about the email from the doctor and scan, her brother was still happy, according to the pair.
Her brother’s partner saw something was not right about the scan, and raised an alarm. Police were called and an investigation revealed the full extent of the deceit.

Roberts was (pictured) sentenced to 2 years imprisonment with a suspended term of two years. He pleaded guilty to controlling or coercive behavior in intimate relationships or families.
Roberts stated that Roberts had been duped by his partner in his initial police interview. But, in the second interview, Roberts accused his spouse of domestic abuse.
The woman gave a statement to court that she felt embarrassed and manipulated by Robert’s lies.
She claimed that Roberts had been aware of her vulnerabilities and had ‘exploited every single one of them’, the court heard.
Roberts, who had no prior convictions, pleaded guilty to controlling or coercive behavior in an intimate relationship or family.
Roberts’ Richard Edwards said that at the time the offense took place, the defendant was conscious his own inadequacies and wanted to “make himself look better” in the eyes.
But matters quickly escalated and, in his client’s own words, ‘the lies got bigger and bigger’.
Roberts claimed that he had been taking part in counselling in order to deal with the problems in his life. He also said that he was now in a relationship with someone who knew about the court case and was supportive of him.
Roberts was told by Judge Niclas Parary that even if the offense were less serious, those who hear the strange facts would not believe it.
According to him, he told the defendant that he used a woman in distress to take control of her life.
Roberts was Sentenced to Two Years in prison with a suspended sentence of two years. This was despite the fact that he had pleaded guilty to it.
He was ordered to complete a rehabilitation course and 250 hours of unpaid work, while he also has to pay £3,230 towards prosecution costs.
Roberts was also prohibited from speaking to his ex-partner or sharing any information about her via social media, under a lifetime restraining order.
Rhian Jones was the senior Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), in Wales. She said that Carwyn Roberts had done a lot to manipulate his partner and it must have affected her mental well-being.
“The CPS was able to establish a solid case that showed the amount of fake emails and accounts could be traced back at him. This proved that he had been lying after lying.
“The victim can now take consolation in knowing Roberts is paying for the horrible experience he caused her and that we are hoping this will help her get on with her lives.”
