EastEnders followers are fearing ITV’s schedule shake-up will ‘kill off’ the long-lasting cleaning soap after it was introduced Coronation Avenue and Emmerdale are set to vary their timeslots in March.

The broadcaster has confirmed each reveals will change time slots – placing them in direct competitors with EastEnders – as ITV increase their information programme for an hour between 6:30pm and seven:30pm. 

Coronation Avenue will change to a few hour-long episodes every week airing at 8pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, whereas Emmerdale will now air at 7:30pm straight following the information.

The announcement left followers reeling, debating whether or not the BBC cleaning soap, which began in 1985, might be axed and evaluating the cleaning soap to Channel 4’s Brookside, which was axed following a decline in viewership in 2003.

Followers shortly took to social media to react to the shake-up with one writing: ‘This offers me anxiousness. What if EastEnders is axed – a world with out EE. I cant even give it some thought.
