The incident comes after police advised people buying Christmas presents online to use click and collect services after a spate of parcels being stolen when left outside homes.

In the week leading up to December 25, one billion parcels would be delivered to households. Couriers often left them at doorsteps.

Citizens Advice received more than 22,000 hits to its Lost and Stolen Parcels page last month.

Residents in Camden (North London) are being advised by police to click and collect their parcels from a safe place.
