DAILY MAIL MEMMENT – Jab refuseniks are unable to hold UK to ransom

Let’s get to the good stuff. In a victory for the Daily Mail, the Government is – for once – following real science.

Ministers have reduced the quarantine time for Covid-infected people from 10 to 7 days, subject to them being negative twice in a row.

The over-prohibitive rules were crippling businesses and public services by leaving them short-staffed or forced to close – fuelling a lockdown by stealth.

Relaxing this regime is proportionate, productive and – most importantly – helps prevent Britain grinding to a halt.

The positive signs don’t stop there. Boris Johnson announced that Christmas Day will not be ruined by stricter regulations, much to the relief of millions who were preparing for celebrations with friends and family (not to mention restaurants and pubs whose existence depends on their festive revenues).

Only the rest of news could be as positive. Omicron’s and Sage’s absurd (and often inaccurate) predictions have convinced Johnson that he won’t be denying us our freedoms after December 25.

It would also violate a solemn vow. A retrograde move like this would cause immense economic and socio-economic misery.

Would it be even necessary? The PM himself yesterday admitted ‘uncertainty’ over Omicron data – a confession that infections are flat … hospitalisations are flat … and deaths are flat.

Yet frightened by chief medical officer Chris Whitty’s blood-curdling warnings, people have voluntarily stayed at home – with catastrophic effects for hospitality.

Rishi Sunak had to pull out his nation’s credit card in order to finance a huge pubs rescue.

To begin paying off Britain’s towering £2.3trillion national debt, the economy must be allowed to boom. We are instead limiting the growth of the NHS to preserve its fragile state.

The most damning truth is that the majority of Covid patients admitted to hospital for critical care are not vaccinated.

It is screamingly obvious the region with surging hospital admissions is London – where vast numbers wilfully refuse to roll up their sleeves. An intensive care consultant rants about their selfishness on this page.

It is obvious that the solution to the economic, job, and everyday life crisis does not lie in limiting the rights of responsible citizens who have been vaccinated. Instead, we should focus our efforts on preventing refuseniks from putting their lives at risk.

It is striking to see the stark difference between Joe Biden and Mr Johnson, US President. He last night presented his plan for dealing with a massive coronavirus outbreak.

Telling his nation – so health-conscious and safety-first – there would be no new lockdown, he warned the unjabbed that they faced a stark winter.

To protect the obstinately anti-vaccination skeptics, life cannot be taken hostage. This is something the Prime Minister needs to quickly learn.

The failure of humanity

A society’s true measurement is its treatment of the vulnerable.

It is therefore scandalous that Tony Hickmott, a severely autistic man, has been held in a crisis facility for over 20 years.

Whistleblowers claim that the 44-year old has been treated ‘like an animal’. Social workers failed to provide him with housing near his parents’ elderly relatives.

It is more than a failure to perform a duty. This is an act of dereliction to humanity.

  • It is said that the law is an ass. Yesterday was no exception. The Court of Appeal overturned the convictions of three Iranians for people-smuggling. They were caught transporting migrants across the Channel using dinghies. Judges weren’t sure if the suspects wanted to enter Britain illegally. They were not sure what they did. Day-tripping?
