The moment when a Texas sheriff’s deputy responded to the school massacre on Tuesday was captured in a horrifying photograph. His daughter was also among the victims.
Felix Rubio was captured clutching Kimberly, his wife in Uvalde when he discovered that Lexi (the 10-year-old daughter) had been murdered by Salvador Ramos at Robb Elementary School.
Rubio was visibly hurt as he attempted to comfort his wife. He had taken a picture with Lexi hours prior to her death, which was even more tragic.
After receiving a certificate from Robb for being on the Honor Roll, she was proud to show her pride with her parents in a photograph that would be their last.
Kimberly wrote that Lexi was on the All-A Honor Roll and received the school’s Good Citizen Award at the ceremony.
Kimberly spoke out about the last time she saw her daughter. She said that they had told her how much they loved her, and that she would be picking her up at school. It was not goodbye, we didn’t know.
Felix spoke with CNN Wednesday while experiencing extreme visible distress and requested that gun control measures be taken to prevent others from suffering similar losses.

Salvador Ramos legal purchased two AR-15 rifles, including the one that he used for yesterday’s attack. This was after his 18th Birthday last week. More than 300 rounds were also purchased by the gunman.
A distraught parent said, “All I can hope for is that she’s just no number.” It’s enough. Nobody else should have to experience this. Although we didn’t need to, it is now.

Felix answered the question “Violence and guns” when asked about what issues he wanted to resolve after the shooting. I’m a cop. In Uvalde county, I serve as a deputy. That’s enough.

The grieving parents later told CNN via text message that their daughter was ‘kind, sweet, and appreciated life. She was going to be an all-star in softball and had a bright future whether it’s sports or academic. Let the world know that we are missing our baby.
In response to Lexi’s tragic death, her aunt set up a GoFundMe page to help her parents in their time of need.
Department of Public Safety Lt. Christopher Olivarez told CNN that the shooter barricade himself inside of a single classroom, and that it is inside that classroom where most or all of the 19 children and two teachers were killed.
State troopers and police arrived just in time for gunshots to be heard inside the classroom. The man had barricaded himself, and started shooting at children and teachers.
Lexi’s mom wrote this in a Facebook posting: “My sweet Lexi. Loving my life. Protector of my heart. You were inside of me. I’m you. You’re me. It is my desire to be with and for you. Now. Do not wait.
The unnamed agent who shot and killed Ramos is believed to be from the Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC), which has specialized agents dispersed throughout the United States.
BORTAC agent, who has yet to be identified, ran into school and left without waiting for backup.
Ramos was hiding behind a barrier and returned fire. But the Border Patrol agent shot Ramos, killing him before he could take more.
“They arrived from the opposite side. The BORTAC agent ended up exchanging gunfire with the shooter, killed the shooter, and I am told that the agent was injured in his leg,’ reported Fox News.
“They’re trying to determine if he was hit with shrapnel or shot in the leg.”
Felix was part of a seven-day active shooter training program that Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office posted on April 18, 2018.
This was part of the post: “We will never wish for such situations, but we will train to prepare for all eventualities.”
Felix, along with another deputy, completed an active shooting training course in 2018.
Kimberly was awarded a leadership award from St. Mary’s University, San Antonio at the start of May 2022. Kimberly won the Alice Franzke Student Scholarship Award in 2022.
Kimberly, according to a St. Mary’s profile, is pursuing a history degree. Her work with South Texas Press Association as a journalist and editor for the Uvalde Leader-News won her prizes.
