Bravo, girl! Dog follows the lead in littered streets, picking up garbage and throwing it away.

  • Millie, a rescue dog, picks up trash left by lazy people and throws it away
  • Alfie Kitson (80) only needs to tell her “put it in the garbage” to oblige
  • The trick was learned by her while she lived in Spain, where Mr Kitson (a retired plumber) taught it to her.

While you may not be able teach an older dog new tricks; however, this faithful pet can show us some valuable lessons.

Millie is dressed in a festive jumper and has reindeer antlers. She picks up the litter from lazy humans to dispose of.

Owner Alfie Kitson, 80, has only to point at rubbish on the ground and say ‘put that in the bin’ and the five-year-old Spanish podenco duly obliges.

The trick was learned by her while she lived in Spain, where Mr Kitson (a retired plumber) and his 75-year-old wife Judith taught it to her. They moved back to England 18 months ago.

‘I enjoy it and so does Millie, plus it’s helping keep the city clean and tidy,’ said Mr Kitson.

Office worker Samuel Tiler, 45, who regularly sees Millie around Hereford, said: ‘It is remarkable. I just wish people could be more thoughtful as it shouldn’t take a dog to clear up after them.’

Mr Kitson, from Ullingswick, Herefordshire, added: ‘Millie is a very intelligent dog and seems to enjoy her little party trick.

‘Passers-by seem to love it and she always gets a little round of applause. She plays up to the audience, and so do I, if I’m honest.’

Millie was taught the trick by Mr Kitson, father-of-3, after being rescued from Spain. They lived there for over 20 years.

Millie, just eight months of age, was left behind in a garbage bag and tied to a tree trunk.

The pensioner gave Millie a new place after spotting a soldier with his dog in Malaga. He then set out to teach Millie how to do it.

Millie was just eight months old when she was found abandoned in a rubbish bag tied to a tree branch

Millie, a baby girl of eight months was left behind in a bag with a string tied to it.

The box was similar in size to the public trash bin. He gradually increased its height until she could drop items in it.

Millie was able to show her talents in Hereford because the bins were the perfect size, as Mr. and Mrs Kitson (a former director of a company) moved back to Britain.

He added: ‘Obviously environmental concerns are a hot topic at the moment so if we can help clear up rubbish and plastic off the street then we’re doing our bit to help.

‘We rescued Millie because our house felt empty without an animal. Dogs and cats are a big part of anyone’s life that loves animals.

‘She isn’t just part of the family, she is the family and we are glad we can show her off to others as she really is an amazing dog.’
