A trailer has been released for Downton Abbey: A New Era. It gives a look at the Crawleys’ new adventures as they visit a luxurious villa in France.

The preview shows the famous family and their army of servants travelling to the unexpected location after learning that the Dowager Countess has inherited the estate from a former lover.

Fans will be able to finally see Tom Branson, a widower, fall in love with Lucy Smith as they tie the knot in romantic scenes.

The trailer opens with a sweeping shot of the iconic Yorkshire estate before Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham (played by Maggie Smith) drops a bombshell on the family, including her son Robert (Hugh Bonneville), his wife Cora (Elizabeth McGovern), and their daughters Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) and Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael).

They hear her tell them that she met a man years ago and have now acquired a villa south of France. Carson, the butler for the Carter family is shown discovering Violent’s historic portrait as a beautiful young lady before showing it to their families. 

The Crawleys are immediately able to afford a luxury property in the countryside and decide to travel there. However, they only do so after Tom’s marriage to Lucy. He was devastated by Lady Sybil’s death.

Wedding bells! A preview of Tom Branson, a widower, tying the knot with Lucy Smith (who he first met in the film’s premiere) also features him finally finding happiness.

The pair struck up a romance in the first Downton Abbey movie, after he learned Lucy was actually the secret illegitimate daughter of Baroness Bagshaw.

Robert and Cora, clearly enjoying the break from their English estate, are seen taking a boat ride. Carson, Elsie’s husband, notes that they should be aware of the British coming.

New love: Tom struck up a romance with maid Lucy, the secret illegitimate daughter of Baroness Bagshaw, following the tragic death of his first wife Lady Sybil

Tom and Lucy are now in a relationship. This was after Lady Sybil died.

The Irishman was unable to fall in love with Sarah Bunting after a disastrous romance, and he fell for Miss Smith despite resistance from the Crawley clan.

The couple’s fate was left open to speculation after Miss Smith’s identity is revealed in the original film.   

Another Downton Abbey scene: A New Era teased featured members of Crawley’s family dressed up while they stepped out to play tennis or speed boat across an expanse of water.

Twitter has confirmed that a longer trailer for the film will be available in cinemas this weekend.

It will be available to audiences watching Belfast, Kenneth Branagh’s semi-autobiographical film inspired by the BAFTA winner’s early childhood growing up in Northern Ireland surrounded by a large extended family.

Also, several stills were published on Wednesday.

Following news of the delay in the sequel’s release, the teaser trailer was released. 

It was originally scheduled to air around Christmas, but it has now been delayed for release on March 18th, 2022. The report came in July.

Julian Fellowes (creator of Downton Abbey) wrote the screenplay. Simon Curtis was nominated for Emmy and BAFTA awards.

Although little is known, it was confirmed that Hugh Dancy and Nathalie Baye will be joining the film’s cast.

The cast and crew filmed scenes in various locations and in studios. However, they spent most of their time at Highclere Castle. It is home to 8th Earl Carnavaron and Countess Carnavaron, who live there since 1679.

Highclere’s decision to shoot the sequel was welcomed by the Countess Carnarvon, who explained that although it is a lot more work, the bustle and bustle keep the castle “alive”.

She told The Daily Mail that when filming was taking place — from February to June for each of the six series of Downton and an additional one-off two months for the film — she was flat out.

Downton Abbey: A New Era continues where the original film ended. 

Robert McGovern (Elizabeth MacGovern), and Cora Crawley were beloved characters in Downton Abbey. They told Robert that the Queen and King will visit them and that the estate must prepare.

The family must deal with many setbacks along the way, including an attempted assassination.

Although the sequel’s plot has been kept under wraps, creator Julian did tell People magazine this week: ‘It’s really a new era. The world changed in many different ways as the 20s advanced. 

“Everything from entertainment and transport were really different after the end 20s. We’re talking about that.

He said, “Mary may not be the head of the household as we saw in the previous film, but she runs the show.” This is what we do.

According to August reports, a famous character was set to be killed off in the sequel.

Julian was the creator of the original PBS series, which aired for six seasons between 2010 and 2016. 

This series followed the lives and times of the Crawley family who owned a large estate in English countryside during the 20th century, as well their servants.
