After trying to cover up his illicit activity on the EncroChat app, a shameless drug dealer aged 28 was sentenced to 15-years in jail.

The drug dealer, who sold heroin and cocaine while drinking champagne and Rolex watches at Knightsbridge’s exclusive Knightsbridge club, was jailed for fifteen years and six month.

Mansoor Kiani (28) from Luton tried to cover his drug dealing activities using EncroChat (encrypted phone communication system).

In November 2020, he was taken into custody by police as part of Operation Costello which started in spring 2020.

Following a three-day trial in Luton Crown Court he was found guilty on conspiracy to supply. He was sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment and six months jail. 

The jury was shown video clips of Kiani showing off his illegal wealth as he drove around London in his Ferrari and his antics at a London nightclub.

In messages, the 28 year old was seen arranging meetings for drug- and cash couriers. He also coordinated payments to suppliers.

The servers of an encrypted tool, which were used only by criminals for communication with one another, were seized by investigators.

This allowed the police to see the messages and other media sent between users and in Kiani’s case, conversations between him and others about the distribution of class A substances.

Kiani was associated to a certain handle. Investigators confirmed this by matching his location to another encrypted phone that connected to different masts. 

In one particular exchange, he messaged another central Luton criminal associate to renew his EncroChat subscription.   

The Operation Costello Team of the Bedfordshire Police is committed to taking down major criminals like Kiani involved in drug deals in their region.

The detective inspector in Kiani's case said that individuals like him are  'funding lavish lifestyles off the back of violence, exploitation and the misery of others'

Kiani was arrested during Opera Costello. A team of Bedfordshire Police investigators seized EncroChat’s servers. This is footage that was found on Kiani’s mobile phone. It shows him drinking champagne and expensive Rolex watches, in Knightsbridge Nightclub.

Video footage of Kiani, a fugitive from his legal wealth driving around the London streets in his Ferrari was displayed to the jury. He also showed his antics in London’s nightclub.

Tom Stean Detective Inspector stated that Kiani is suspected of being behind multiple kilogrammes heroin and cocaine distributions. These drugs will undoubtedly have an impact on the lives of our community members.

“We are aware that drug use is a major cause of criminal activity. Gang violence, exploitation, and even murder have all been linked to drugs.

Op Costello does not target street dealers, but the major players that fuel local drug markets.

These individuals fund lavish lifestyles by supporting violence, exploitation, or the misery and suffering of others.

“Kiani”‘s funds were entirely made from illegal activities.
