Egyptian football was rocking as Adham El-Selhadar, El Magd manager, dies from a heart attack at 53. He also celebrated a win in stoppage-time

After suffering a heart attack during celebrations of his team’s win, an Egyptian manager football has passed away at 53.

Adham El-Selhadar scored a goal for El Magd in the 92nd minute in their victory over El Zarqa, in an Egyptian Second League match.

After the goal, there was joy and celebrations. However, El-Selhadar had a heart attack shortly after the goal. He was taken to the hospital.

Adham El-Selhadar was an Egyptian soccer manager who died at 53 from a heart attack.

Following the death announcement, tributes were led by two top clubs in Egypt. 

Ismaily SC – who El Selhadar used to manage – wrote in a statement:  ‘The Ismaily Board of Directors, headed by Engineer Yahya El-Komy, mourns the death of Adham El-Selhadar, a star and former coach of the team, who passed away as a result of a sudden heart attack, following his match of his team, ‘El-Majd’ Alexandria, in the second division league competitions.

 ‘Against this background, the Board of Directors declared 3 days of mourning for the soul of the late.’

Their rivals Al Ahly also paid tribute to El-Selhadar as their statement read: ‘Captain Mahmoud Al-Khatib, president of the club, and the members of the board of directors, mourn with great sadness and sorrow, Coach Adham El-Selhadar, the former Ismaily player, who passed away on Thursday.

He was celebrating El Magd’s victory in stoppage-time.

Prayer to the Almighty asking him to grant the burial of the decedent with all his mercy and allow him to be buried in his many gardens.

El Magd declared a 6-day mourning period while they wait for their match against Pioneers FC.   

El-Selhadar was a highly successful player, having won the Eygptian Premier League with Ismaily.  

He won both the Egyptian Premier League as well as the Egyptian Cup together with Ismaily in the 1990s.

After being promoted to manager of the club, he became a respected coach throughout the country.   

It is one of many recent incidents involving heart disease at stadium football games.

Recenty, Watford’s battle with Chelsea was stopped temporarily after an individual collapsed from cardiac arrest. 

This incident occurred in the wake of a similar one that happened to a Newcastle fan during a clash against Tottenham in October.

Both occasions saw stable fans after receiving treatment by the medical personnel at the stadium.

In recent years, there have been several heart issues among the players.   

Wigan striker Charlie Wyke, 28, collapsed in training after a cardiac arrest, while  Barcelona striker Sergio Aguero, 33, was diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia having been forced off with chest pains in a 1-1 draw against Alaves last month.
