Emma Raducanu tested positive for Covid, and was forced to pull out of the Mubadala classic exhibition in Abu Dhabi this week.

If she wins the vote, this could also affect her plans to receive the BBC’s Sports Personality of the year award.

Before her first scheduled appearance in the Middle East on Thursday, the US Open champion is fully vaccinated.

Raducanu, who won the US Open in the USA Open, is favourite to win Sports Personality of the The Year.

She is currently subject to a 10-day isolation, and will be back next Sunday. This would thwart any attempts to present a satellite presentation to an athlete, who has a strong chance of winning SPOTY out of the six athletes announced Monday.

“I really wanted to play in Abu Dhabi in front of my fans, but after I tested positive for COVID-19, unfortunately, I have to delay until the next opportunity,” said the Kent teenager, 19 years old. He reportedly only has mild symptoms. 

“I’m Isolating per Rules and will hopefully be able To Get Back on Court Soon.”
