The father of the young armorer from Alec Baldwin’s movie Rust says the gun that Alec Baldwin used to kill Halyna Hutchins was ‘sabotaged’ by a disgruntled crew member who wanted to cause a safety incident after having complaints ignored but never intended for anyone to die.
Hannah Gutierrez Reed (24 years old) was the film’s armorer. After checking the gun, she said that she gave the gun to Dave Halls as an assistant director. Baldwin then mistakenly fired at Hutchins during rehearsals.
The sheriff’s Department is not yet investigating the incident and hasn’t arrested anyone.
Baldwin spoke out in tears last week on ABC. He said that it wasn’t his fault but couldn’t pinpoint who it was.
In the days before shooting began, the set was plagued by safety concerns. Some staff members were disgruntled and walked away in the hours prior to the accident.
Now, Hannah’s father, veteran film armorer Thell Reed is speaking out in her defense and suggesting that a disgruntled crew member who was fed up with safety issues in set is to blame for the accident.

Reed spoke out on Tuesday about his daughter’s experience with guns and said that he has a ‘good job’. Reed has been involved in films such as 3:10 to Yuma, and others that involve guns.
Baldwin maintains that Hannah would have seen Baldwin in the church setting when Baldwin received the gun. She would have been able to check it one last time, and find the live round.
“That was the one and only time they could have her there…she would’ve found it. She’s a good worker. “She does the job as well as me now,” he stated.
Jason Bowles (lawyer) stated that they have evidence someone has sabotaged her, and it was given to the sheriff.
The most probable scenario, possibility of sabotage. Many motives could be involved. Someone wanted to set up a dangerous situation on the set. Nobody wanted anyone to die.
We have the evidence to prove that.

A number of crew members complained about the working conditions and walked out on the set hours prior to the shoot.
The people complained that they were asked to travel an average of one hour each day to get to the set, violate safety protocols and work too hard because it was not paying them enough to.
Hannah said it was the second time she had been cast as the armorer in the film.
She told her father Tuesday morning that it was not something he liked that she needed to divide her attention between these two positions.
“It was not my favorite, and it made her unhappy,” he stated.
His daughter grew up with guns, he said. She was also competent in handling firearms despite having very little experience.
“She has been around guns safety since her childhood. Film is her favorite medium. She started to work with me in the armory, and found that it was more enjoyable.
He said, “She doesn’t require more training… She’s got me,”
Alec Baldwin claimed last week, in interview, that he was unable to say who was at fault for the accident. However it was not him.
Reed’s attorney stated that Reed had checked the gun, and that she then gave it to Dave Halls (Assistant Director), who admitted that he hadn’t checked every chamber.
She had both armorer and prop duties. Halls had received the cylinder from her, and she showed him the six rounds. Halls was to then take possession of the weapon.
‘Hannah was outside the church having to do her prop duties,’ he said.
She was assured by her father Tuesday that she won’t face any charges
“The sheriff’s office will investigate this.” He stated that he wasn’t concerned at all about this.
Sheriff Adan Mendoza has yet not made arrests nor ruled out any suspects in his investigation.
In an interview, he said that the ABC investigation was ongoing.
Baldwin wept as he talked about Hutchins’ 42-year old mother.
However, he said that he wasn’t guilty and would not have committed suicide if he had.
