A new trilogy is being developed of James Bond books. A female author will be writing the spy novels.
Kim Sherwood, 32 years old, is a Canadian author best known for her 2018 book The Testament. She will now write three ‘contemporary thrillers’ following an agreement with Ian Fleming Publications.
The first book, due to be released in September 2022, depicts a world in which Bond is’missing presumed captured or even murdered’.
This is a move that Phoebe Waller Bridge, the scriptwriter for James Bond, made after he swapped bed-hopping with handshakes and camaraderie in No Time To Die.

Kim’s book reveals a new generation in Double 0 agents, but spymaster M Moneypenny and secretary Moneypenny have begun to look for a mole within MI6.
Kim described Bond as “one of the enduring love of my life” and said she was a ‘hooked’ on Ian Fleming’s novels.
She said, “As a teenager I chose Fleming because my English teacher asked me to write about an author I admired. I still have the school reports.
‘Since then have I dreamt of writing James Bond. It’s rare for dreams to come true and I am grateful to the Fleming families for this amazing opportunity.

‘I feel honored to have been the first novelist who expanded the Bond universe through Double O sector. This sector brings new life and characters to old favourites.
“I couldn’t be more excited for my Double O agents to meet the world.”
Johnny Geller is a literary agent who represents Ian Fleming Publications. He said, “We struck gold this latest collaboration avec Kim as she not only is a fine novelist, but a Fleming fanatic of the highest order.”
“Her reimagining of some our favorite characters and world building will delight anyone who loves James Bond and Ian Fleming.”

Kingsley Amis, Anthony Horowitz, and Anthony Horowitz were the previous authors of Bond novels.
It comes months after No Time to Die, the ‘wokest 007 film’, was declared.
The 25th installment of the franchise features strong female characters. Lashana Lynch stars as Nomi, a British spy agent. Ana De Armas plays Paloma as the Cuban agent Paloma. Lea Seydoux plays Madeleine Swann as Bond’s lover and psychologist.
Phoebe, the Fleabag creator was brought in to write the script. This was to ensure that the blockbuster was appropriate for today’s #MeToo age. The film is billed as the most politically and ‘woke” James Bond movie ever.

No Time To Die features the usual explosive Bond drama, but 007’s previous history of adding notches is very much an afterthought. The agent is seen building a friendship with his female colleagues rather than trying to seduce them.
Bond asks Paloma for his turn as he changes and then shakes hands with her after a fight scene.
They also praise each other’s work. Bonds of yesteryear might have seen the suave agent deliver some smooth lines and bedroom eyes, before falling into a passionate embrace. However, the pair keep it cordial.
In the latest film, there is also verbal sparring with Nomi, with the usually silver-tongued agent placed uncharacteristically on the back foot during several tongue-in cheek exchanges

A 2019 source revealed that the phrase “Bond girls”, as it was used in 2019, is now prohibited.
Phoebe stated that Bond’s relevance is now due to his persona and how he treats women.
‘I think that’s b******s. I think he’s absolutely relevant now. [The franchise]It has to continue to grow. It must evolve. The important thing is that it treats women well. He doesn’t need to. He must be true and authentic to his character.
