Joey Barton, a former Premier League player will face allegations that he beat his wife next month at an assault trial.
Former Newcastle player and Bristol Rovers manager, Alex McNeil, is charged with assaulting Georgia McNeil on June 2, 2018. He beat McNeil at a Kew property, south-west London.
According to reports, he kicked her head at her property and left her with a bloody nose and a head injury.
Barton of Widnes in Cheshire married his wife at an extravagant venue in Oxfordshire two years ago.
He was a former midfielder who played over 250 Premier League games with Queens Park Rangers and Manchester City.
In 2018, he took over the management of League One’s Fleetwood Town, before moving to Bristol Rovers in Feb 2018. This was shortly after Fleetwood Town were demoted to League Two.
Today, the trial date for Wimbledon Magistrates Court was established. It is scheduled to take place on December 16th.
It is claimed that the alleged attack occurred two days prior to their anniversary.

Wimbledon Magistrates Court heard that Barton grabbed Mrs Barton and kicked the head of her during an altercation on the Kew property. Barton had been in the area with two other friends.
Following the alleged assault, her nose was bleeding. She called police to ask for the removal of her husband.
Nahiedh Khan, the prosecutor said that Barton was allegedly ‘quite angry’ when discussing a family matter.
“He grasped Mrs Barton’s throat, and she fell to the ground.
Barton, allegedly kicked Ms Khan to her right temple side.
He claimed that his ex-footballer wife was not violent and had just been drinking heavily.

Two years after their wedding, the couple was attacked by a man two days prior to their anniversary.
According to Mrs Khan, the court was told that Mr Barton had been with Georgia Barton on 2 June around 11.30pm. They were talking outside of the house while having a small celebration together.
“These two friends saw the event and were unable to give any further details beyond what was shown in the body-worn footage.”
“Mrs. Barton sustained a bruise the size of a golf ball on her side head,” she continued.

Richard Derby (Defending) requested a hearing on case management before the trial.
He stated that the incident had not occurred in a categorically. It was not an assault.
The Metropolitan Police stated that the charge was related to an incident at Kew’s residential property on Wednesday, June 2, in which a female suffered a head injury. London Ambulance Service didn’t attend.
“A 38-year old man was taken into custody on June 2nd, bailed while further inquiries are made and then charged.”
During his playing career, Barton played 269 Premier League games for Queens Park Rangers, Newcastle United and Manchester City. In February 2007, he was also selected for England’s first ever cap.
After becoming manager at League One’s Fleetwood Town, the 38-year old took over League Two’s Bristol Rovers in 2018.
Rovers issued a brief statement following Barton’s arrest.
The letter stated: “The Football Club is aware that the Court Hearing involving Manager Joey Barton was scheduled for Monday 26th July.
“The club can’t comment on the legal proceedings at the moment because they are pending.”
