Teenage girl was killed by suspected drug-driver after she was hit with a car on New Years Eve.
Yesterday, the 14-year old was walking along Station Road near Rowley Regis station in Sandwell when she was hit by a grey Mercedes.
Although paramedics were on the scene, it was tragic that nothing was possible to save the little girl. She was declared dead at 5.30pm.
West Midlands Police informed her family that a specialist Family liaison Officer would be available to them.
A 39-year old man drove up to the accident scene, and was stopped by police. He was charged with causing death through driving under the influence. He is still in custody by police this morning.
Sergeant Julie Lyman of our Serious Collision Investigation Unit stated: “This is an awful way to start off the New Year. I am so sorry for the loss and offer my condolences to her family and all those who care about her.
“We are investigating the incident and have taken the driver into custody. He was driving under the influence of drugs.
“The investigation is still in its early stages. I urge everyone not to speculate on the internet about what has happened.” It isn’t helpful, and can lead to a lot of distress for the loved ones.
