Seven men were arrested so far. The teenager from Beed in Maharashtra is currently two months pregnant and said that she can identify at most 25 of the alleged perpetrators.

But three men then approached and forced her into prostitution, India’s Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Abhay Vitthalrao Vanave said.

Beed police did not comment on the allegations.

Although the 16-year old is pregnant, the CWC is still processing an application for abortion.
India’s laws on rape were reformed after New Delhi’s 2012 Gang Rape. However, the crime rate is still high with over 28,000 reported rapes in 2020.
It is possible that the actual number will be higher.
Long-standing allegations against police include failing to prosecute sexual assault cases and failing to keep violent crimes away from their streets.
