Good Morning Britain had an empty chair after today’s Tory ministers failed to show up to defend Boris Johnson. Liz Truss, however, was delighted to be on Sky News and Today.
Adil Ray joked that “We have cake” was a reference the Prime Minister having gathered with his staff in celebration of his birthday during lockdown, when all indoor gatherings had been banned.
Susanna Reid was his co-host. She said she had requested a minister appear on the show but could not get any to accept. “We’ll keep everyone updated about that situation, the chair is empty,” she said.
Adil Ray (GMB presenter) gestured at a vacant chair, as Susanna Reid and he explained that no minister was willing to appear.
This was in spite of Foreign Secretary Liz Truss making broadcast rounds across the country, including today and sky news.
Ray added his opinion, laughing that he knew of a joke about Mr Ray. You can be entrapped with a piece of cake.
There are plenty of wine and cheese options, so you might want to pop in.
Ms Truss said that Sue Gray’s investigation into Partygate, which will be published imminently, might contain some of her report.
Sky News asked the Foreign Secretary if the full report would be made public. He replied: “We are absolutely certain that the results of this report will be published.
“We do not know what the contents of this report are, and there may be security concerns that make it difficult to publish certain parts. We will publish all the conclusions of this report.
Ms Truss stated that the government must acknowledge public anger. However, she stated that the PM should be allowed to continue her office. He is doing an excellent job… His efforts are admirable.
“We have cake,” joked Ray in reference to Prime Minister Ray meeting staff members to celebrate his birthday in lockdown, when all indoor parties were prohibited.
Ms Truss stated that Sue Gray’s Report into Partygate might have some of its contents rescinded for security reasons.
The day comes just as Johnson faces a moment of reckoning. Allies are mobilizing to help Johnson, and Jacob Rees Mogg warns that MPs would likely trigger a snap election.
Ms Truss rejected this idea this morning and said that BBC Radio 4’s Today program was just a speculative speculation.
Additionally, Johnson received her support of ‘100%’, as Johnson is facing calls to quit, even from Conservative MPs, over his ‘partygate” revelations.
She said that she believed the PM should remain in office because he is doing an excellent job. He has since apologised, and admitted his errors.
She was asked by a reporter if she is interested in leading the Conservative Party.
Boris Johnson, pictured this morning running, is now facing Sue Gray’s investigation into the alleged Downing Street lockdown violations.
He also spoke out about the current crisis in Ukraine and promised Russia that it would receive’severe sanction’ if it invaded.
Sky spoke to her, saying that they already provide support for Ukraine. We’re supplying defensive weapons. We provide economic support.
“We urge Russia to cease any incursions and make it clear that Russia would suffer severe economic consequences if they did so – serious sanctions.”
She spoke out about what sanctions might look like.
Ms Truss was asked whether the Government supports individual sanctions against President Vladimir Putin. She said that it wasn’t her intention to ‘rule anything out.
