Two people believed to be drug dealers have reportedly died following a shooting at a five-star hotel in Cancun that is popular with American tourists.
Guests were told to seek shelter at the Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun resort in Mexico.
Police stated that two men believed to be drug dealers were killed in the shooting at the hotel’s beach. No tourists were seriously hurt.

Following the shooting, guests were seen hiding in the darkness at the Cancun hotel.
The U.S. Embassy in Mexico stated that on Thursday, consulate officials were reviewing social media reports about shots being fired at the hotel.
Twitter users have shared several stories that staff instructed guests to hide at Hyatt Ziva Cancun hotel in order to avoid an active shooter.
A U.S. Embassy media representative informed Reuters by email, that the U.S. Consulate in Merida in Yucatan was trying confirm the reports.
Mike Sington, a Twitter user whose bio states he is an executive at NBC Universal told Reuters by direct messaging that he was hiding in a dark area of his hotel with other guests and that staff had not explained why.
Other guests reported to him that they heard gunshots. He also said that a gunman had been at the beach.

Later, Sington tweeted that guests had been taken out of hiding to be brought to the hotel lobby where they cried and hugged.
“In hiding now. He was informed that there was an active shooter on the property. Sington stated that paramedics are on site.
Later, Sington tweeted that guests were brought out of hiding and brought into the lobby. They cried and hugged one another.
Later, he tweeted an update stating that staff at the hotel had informed him that a shooter was captured.
