Six stitches were required for the victim following the attack on the Wheatsheaf pub in Stock-on-Trent, owned by Wetherspoons (pictured).

Prosecutor Rachel Pennington told  Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court that Crutchley was in the Wheatsheaf at 9.30pm on August 14 last year when the incident took place.

She claimed that Crutchley and another person were in the pub and Crutchley took a basket with chicken from another customer and ate it.

Crutchley should be paying for the food because of the suggestion of a woman who worked in the pub, but who was on socialising and off duty at the time.

Miss Pennington stated that the defendant shouted, ‘Do you want go, do you want go?

“She grabbed a drink and threw it at her. Security intervened.

The defendant reached for a glass of gin, grabbed it and began to strike out at the woman. To protect her face the complainant raised one arm.

“The victim claimed that the glass was being thrown at her.” She held her arms up. The glass broke against her left hand.

The victim was admitted to hospital, where she was given six stitches to her cut. Crutchley of Springhill Terrace, Rugeley pleaded guilty at the time to wounding.
